Job overview

I.A.P.S. co-educational day school 335+ pupils (3 – 11)

Junior School Deputy Head (Learning and Teaching)

January 2018 (or sooner)

Royal Russell is an HMC/IAPS co-educational school with 1000+ pupils between the ages of 3 and 18. There are 135 boarders in the Senior School. ISI has recently judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas. We are situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills.

A qualified and experienced leader with a track record of delivering outstanding teaching and learning, and a passion for inspiring staff to deliver new pedagogy using the latest ICT and mobile technology is required to join our leadership team in this forward-looking and ambitious school.

This is a new post within the Junior School created following the promotion of the previous post holder to a senior position in another independent school and will suit someone looking for their first position in a Senior Leadership Team.

Experience of ensuring improved pupil outcomes, and in directly managing pupils and staff to improve achievement in an age 3-11 environment is essential together with a sound knowledge of learning enrichment and experience in providing strong pastoral support.

The Royal Russell leadership scale (substantially above national scales) provides for regular progression based on performance.

About Royal Russell School

Thank you for your interest in joining the Royal Russell team

Royal Russell is an Independent Day and Boarding School for boys and girls aged 3 to 18.

Royal Russell is different by design and offers an exceptional education as a family school by valuing what makes each pupil distinctively brilliant. Pupils are supported to realise their vision of success in an open community that reflects the real world and celebrates all achievements.

Located just 8 mins from East Croydon station, pupils enjoy the 110-acre campus, which contains incredible facilities to inspire learning and personal growth; from cutting-edge science labs, extensive sporting facilities, Chapel, Great Hall, spacious dining areas, Performing Arts Centre and beautiful Houses surrounded by green open space.

The School offers bespoke educational pathways to support children and is guided by expert tutors, teachers, coaches and pastoral teams.

There are more than 300 pupils in the Junior School, and over 800 pupils in the Senior School including approximately 250 pupils in the Sixth Form. The School also has around 180 boarders staying in the boarding houses on campus.  Pupils benefit from learning in a co-educational setting and as part of an open community that reflects the real world, celebrating both individual and collective achievements.

Royal Russell was founded in 1853 as a charity to look after orphans of families from the textile trades and is proud to have enjoyed Royal Patronage from its foundation, and for having Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as the School’s Patron during her reign.
