Job overview

Hebron School was founded in 1899 to serve the Christian worker community of India and South-East Asia. More than a century has passed and the School continues to fulfill its original purpose although it has grown in size and is styled an International School recognised as such by the Government of India and the State of Tamil Nadu. It is a co-educational and predominantly boarding school for children aged 9 years to 19 years. About 10% of our students are day students (with staff children and children from the Defence Services Staff Training College in Wellington in addition). Students study the English National Curriculum leading to IGCSE in Standards 10 and 11 and to A levels in Standards 12 and 13.

All schools rightly claim to be unique, and Hebron is no exception. Its uniqueness is spelt out in its aims which are listed on the next page. As you explore the many pages of this website I am sure you will catch the enthusiasm and energy that make Hebron such a unique school – indeed it is much more; it is a very special learning community with a strategic role to play in caring for and educating each child entrusted to us, in the most wholesome and effective way.

Hebron is unapologetically a Christian school and in everything we do we try to exemplify our motto: Deo Supremo (God first). That is the reason we exist and the reason we strive to do things in the best possible way – for God’s glory. We welcome you to Hebron School and assure you of our commitment to service.

Staffing

Staff who work at Hebron School do so out of a sense of Christian calling and service. The school provides remuneration at local Indian rates, as well as full board and accommodation. Hebron staff have a high degree of job satisfaction and a strong appreciation for the School's aims and purpose.

The school provides a sound educational program in a wonderful teaching-learning environment, with eager learners who are encouraged to reach their full potential in a wide range of disciplines and extra curricular activities. There are about 360 students aged from 5 to 19 years studying a modified form of the English National Curriculum leading to the IGCSE and A Level examinations.

With two attractive campuses in the beautiful Nilgiri Hills of south India for accommodation, Hebron School is home to a diverse multi-cultural community made up of around 30 nationalities. Hebron has approximately 65 teaching and 35 administrative staff. Staff come from India, the UK, Australia, NZ, the USA, Canada, Kenya, S. Africa, S. Korea and Europe. As a boarding school the residential care provided at Hebron is personal and endeavours to create a home away from home. Hebron is a lively, busy community in which gifts and talents of both staff and students have ample opportunity for expression and development.

Long-term commitment is highly value by the school (some staff members have served here for 20+ years), however Hebron recognises that this is not always possible. On average staff come for around 3-5 years, a few for one year and a number for 5-10 years. It is a super place for a family to grow up.

Most staff leave with a strong sense of the strategic role that Hebron plays and with deep appreciation for the years they have served at Hebron. In recent years several staff have returned for a ‘second innings’ – testimony to the value they place on serving at Hebron.

Established in 1899, Hebron is an independently managed, Christian, international, co-educational residential School. It is recognised by the Government of India with permission to follow the English National Curriculum which culminates in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations (year 11), and the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level - AS examinations (Std 12) and A2 (Std 13).

Christian moral and ethical standards are fostered, and students are encouraged to consider matters of faith. A key aim is for students to develop their full potential – academically, physically, spiritually, socially and aesthetically, so that they can live selflessly as well rounded people in the service of God and man.

Hebron School is located next to the famous Botanic Gardens in Ooty. Lushington Hall is on a 20 acre densely wooded property which has a good range of educational and sports facilities, including an indoor Sports Hall, playing fields and swimming pool.
