Job overview

Key Stage 2 leader

Manchester Communication Primary Academy opened its doors in September 2014 to a small cohort of EYFS/Y1 children, since then it has grown by a 2-form year group each year. The school is currently up to Y4 and it embarking on the next phase of its journey – upper KS2.

Our recent Ofsted inspection graded the school as Good in all areas as ‘The Principal has created a school with a ‘heart’; a kind, caring and supportive community. There are 25 different languages spoken yet every pupil is treated as a member of the same family.’ (Ofsted 2017).

Who are we looking for?

First and foremost, we are looking for an excellent and experienced upper KS2 teacher with the ability to model high quality teaching and learning.

We are looking to appoint someone who holds our values of honesty, trustworthiness, bravery and helpfulness to become an inspiring leader of our KS2 team and member of our whole school leadership team. This is an extremely exciting opportunity to build a completely new team, develop a learning environment and enable our children to achieve fantastic outcomes with the support of the Senior Leadership Team.

We are particularly interested in applications from teachers with recent year 6 teaching experience, and whilst leadership experience will be useful, it is not essential, as training will be provided.

What does the role involve?

The KS2 team is currently staffed up to Y4; this role will involve recruitment of new staff, leadership of the team and development of the environment and curriculum. You will be supported by the wider SLT, two of whom are experienced leadership coaches.

In the first year of post, the successful candidate will teach a reduced timetable in KS2 alongside another teacher. Upper KS2 teachers will teach their class in Y5 and then take them onto Y6, returning to Y5 the year after.

When does the role start?

The start date for the role is the 4th of June 2018, although this could be negotiated.

There are several reasons for advertising this role so early and with a long application window:

1.  So that we can be sure to find the right person for our school and our children.

2.  So that potential candidates can speak to us, visit the school and understand our ethos.

3.  So that we can offer support and training to the successful candidate before starting (if appropriate).

4.  So that we can develop a relationship with the candidate prior to starting, enabling a strong and successful start in the role.

If I’m still interested, what should I do next?

We think that applying for a new role should always be seen as a 2-way process, you have to be right for us, but the school also has to be right for you. So if you are interested in applying, please do give us a call to arrange a visit or informal telephone conversation with the Principal or Vice Principal to discuss the role further.
