Required for September 2019 a full time class teacher with a genuine and demonstrable interest in teaching Maths and Foundation Subjects to dyslexic and dyspraxic pupils.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a mainstream teacher to join our team of experienced specialist teachers and speech therapists and discover what makes Calder House outstanding in its field. The successful applicant will work to the direction of the Maths Subject Leader, and be guided by the Director of Studies and will be attracted by the continuing professional development opportunities this post affords.
Calder House is a coeducational preparatory day school whose pupils all have specific learning difficulties of a Dyslexic, Dyspraxic or Dyscalculic nature. We are rated OUTSTANDING by Ofsted in all categories.
Our teaching approach is to investigate and address the reasons behind our pupils’ difficulties in the classroom. The successful applicant will wish to broaden their knowledge and skills in this area, and will demonstrate enthusiasm and the ability to work well with an innovative and creative team.
As form tutor of a class of eight the successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining a supportive, orderly and structured learning environment in which pupils start to take responsibility for their own learning, receive support in improving organisational skills and treat each other with respect.
As a subject teacher the applicant will be expected to demonstrate an ability to plan and differentiate lessons to meet each child’s needs including the provision of appropriate challenges. The successful applicant will show they have the ability to earn pupil trust, and evidence that they are a good team player both seeking and giving support to colleagues.Our teaching groups are eight pupils or less and we follow the full KS2 National Curriculum differentiating as required to match our pupil’s skill levels. All applicants will be asked to identify which KS2 foundation subjects they particularly enjoy teaching and explain how their teaching in these subjects would benefit our dyslexic and dyspraxic learners.
