Job overview

Teacher Recruitment - Key Stage 1

Due to the current postholder retiring, we have an exciting opportunity to take on the role of class teacher at our thriving village school starting in the summer term. The class will be in Key Stage 1.

Leigh on Mendip School has a small, friendly and supportive team committed to providing the very best possible education for all our children. We believe in ‘Nurturing Curious Minds’. The school has grown from a First school to a Primary School, along with a preschool, and currently has approximately 100 children attending from ages 2 - 11.

The post is to initially teach a class of  20 pupils in Year 1 for Terms 5 and 6, while the candidate will again be placed in a Key Stage 1 class next year. The successful candidate should be enthusiastic, confident and flexible. Experience of core subject leadership would be valuable, although not essential to the post.

As well as this we are hoping the successful candidate will take on the role of SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator) either having already taken the national qualification for this or being willing to embark on this while in post.

As a school we have a commitment to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, with a wide range of outdoor and extracurricular activities and excellent community links including a hardworking PTA.  We are part of a very successful multi-academy trust comprising more than twenty schools.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable groups and expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of this commitment anyone working in a post with children or vulnerable groups will be expected to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

Visits to the school are encouraged; you will be shown around the site in compliance with our Covid risk assessment. Alternatively a video call can be arranged; please telephone the school administrator Sarah Claxton on 01373 812592 to arrange a time or for any further information.
