Job overview

Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park is a Primary Academy for local children. Our belief is that children thrive when they are consistently happy and safe at school. Whatever a child’s background or starting point, we want to make sure that they finish Year 6 with the academic skills, social skills and knowledge necessary to succeed. Every lesson at our school is creative and there is plenty of time for children to think, to play, to discover and wonder. In addition, from the age of 3, parents have the option to start their children in Harris Peckham Park Nursery.

Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park is seeking an inspirational class teacher to teach our Key Stage 1 children. TLRs are available for appropriately qualified candidates, and we can be flexible about the year groups you wish to teach.

We welcome applications from experienced or newly qualified practitioners who will:

  • Model and disseminate high quality teaching pedagogy and practice to secure consistently good or outstanding teaching and learning for our children
  • Be committed to on-going professional development
  • Contribute to the wider life at the Academy
  • Maintain a dynamic and inspiring learning environment
  • Be innovative, highly motivated and eager to take a lead
  • Have good interpersonal skills and are able to work well as part of our team

We are looking for teachers with:

  • A proven track record of recent and successful class teaching in mixed ability classes of primary age.
  • Successful experience of teaching the primary curriculum.
  • Good understanding of current theory and best practice in teaching.
  • Good understanding of child development and progression and how this impacts on planning.
  • Understanding of effective strategies for managing behaviour.
  • Understanding of equal opportunity issues and how they can be addressed in schools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

For NQTs, we provide our highly successful Harris Federation NQT programme where you will train alongside other NQTs from across the Federation. This enables aspiring teachers to support and learn from each other, in the true collaborative spirit of Harris. There is a structure of support and challenge with customised professional learning, and every NQT has a professional mentor.

School summary

Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park opened in September 2011 in the heart of Peckham. Children can start our Academy in the nursery when they are 3 years old and they leave after Year Six, when they are 11. Our Academy is an exciting place to learn and our pupils work hard and behave well. Our specialism is Literacy and Communication and we believe that learning to read, write and communicate effectively is extremely important. In 2011 97% of our children achieved a L4 in English at the end of Year 6. 100% of children made two national curriculum levels of progress in English.
