Job overview

We are a European family looking to employ a qualified KS1/KS2 Primary Teacher for the second and third trimester of next school year (January to July 2021), to teach our 8- and 6-year old children at our home on a plantation in the Malaysian countryside, two hours north of Kuala Lumpur.

Our children are already students at an international school in KL, where they will be studying from August 2020 to January 2021. They will continue with the Y4/Y1 British National Curriculum as provided by the school, and there will be close communication with the school.

Job Description

To deliver a broad and balanced curriculum, following the international school’s planning where appropriate, as well as using the unique environment on the plantation to enrich learning opportunities and plan tailored lessons for two keen learners.

To work closely with teaching staff at the international school in KL, ensuring a seamless transition from beginning to end.

Use a range of assessment tools and strategies to ensure planning is specifically tailored to the two-student classroom where two different levels have to be taught concurrently.

Person Specification

The candidate must hold a primary teaching qualification (Degree or PGCE). Unfortunately this post is not suitable for NQTs.
The candidate must possess an up-to-date enhanced DBS check.

He/She must be able to teach all subjects within the British National Curriculum, including sports and religion. Recent experience teaching the KS1/KS2 curriculum is desirable, as well having a key interest in the teaching of Mathematics.

He/She must be proactive and driven, reliable and thorough and have a positive perspective on life. As it will be only the Teacher and our two children in the classroom, the candidate needs to be able to make teaching fun, flexible, creative and down to earth, whilst still upholding the professional standards of a conventional school.

For the half year, the candidate will work and live closely with our family and the traditional teacher/student/parent relationship is very different in this job. It is important that the candidate feels comfortable integrating into a new family and that he/she feels enthusiastic about joining in with afternoon activities and any upcoming events.

As we are living in the countryside, it will be important that the candidate can be comfortable and independent in a tranquil environment. He or she must be a person who enjoys the outdoors, sports, different cultural experiences in a multiracial society and who upholds good moral values.

Housing and Remuneration

Own housing in the beautiful environment on the plantation will be provided for as well as a fair remuneration package, including a car and a bicycle at disposal.

Application details

The start date for the full-time teaching position will be January 2nd, 2021.
Please ensure that an up-to-date cover letter, a recent photograph and your CV (including contact details of two references) are enclosed with your application. The deadline for sending an application to gurujenda@outlook.com is July 29th, 2020, and interviews via Skype will be held before end of August.
