TEACHING AT PELICAN SCHOOL 2014-2015

Pelican School is set on a small idyllic island called Canouan, part of Saint Vincent & The Grenadines in the Caribbean.
Pelican School is a registered Cambridge International Primary School. The school was established in 2006 and moved into a new purpose-built facility in 2013. Pelican School is well resourced and has a large bank of teaching and learning resources and textbooks to enhance the curriculum. The school is equipped with computers, laptops, kindles, printer/photocopier, art and craft supplies, musical equipment and PE resources. We have a large outdoor play area and a well-stocked library.

The school day is structured to support employees of the CRD group of companies required to work between 7am and 5pm. In order to accommodate parents working hours, Pelican school is open during these times. Before 8.30am and after 3.30pm, children are involved in a variety of before and after school activities. They are free to arrive and leave in this time as parents see fit.

The children vary in ability and we strive to cater for their individual learning needs. With small class sizes you will be able to focus entirely on the children’s individual strengths and interests in order to help them to succeed on their learning journey.

We use the Cambridge Curriculum combined with the local Caribbean Curriculum to ensure a high quality international education. Assessments are regularly undertaken and feedback is reported to the pupils and parents. Pelican school uses a large bank of resources to deliver a vibrant curriculum and ensure meaningful assessment.

Nearby the school we have a beach volleyball court, tennis/football hard-court and we arrange regular trips to the beach where we have swimming lessons. We make use of the beautiful weather embracing ‘outdoor learning’.

The number of children expected for August is approximately seven in the Kindergarten/Grade 1 Class, seven in the Grade 2/3 Class and five in the Grade 4/5/6 Class. Currently there are four teachers and a cleaner/supervisor to support at Pelican School. The position opening for 2014-2015 is in in the Grade 4/5/6 Class.

Because of the nature of the working hours and being a small school, teachers quickly become part of the Pelican ‘family’. Although the hours are long, teaching at Pelican School is very rewarding and living in the Caribbean invites exciting travel opportunities in the holidays as well as the bonus of being able to relax on the beach and swim in the sea after school!
