Job overview

KS2 Teacher Permanent Full-Time

Required to Teach Y3 from September 2019

As an all-girls school nestled in the heart of Exeter, The Maynard has an enviable record of incredible results matched with a truly warm and friendly spirit. We provide a happy, secure and lively environment where every child’s individuality and unique talents can shine through.

We seek an outstanding, well-qualified and enthusiastic candidate to teach one of our Year 3 classes in September 2019 and then to teach across the Key Stage in subsequent years. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the exciting and busy extra-curricular life of the school. This post would be suitable for NQTs as well as more experienced teachers with an excellent understanding of EYFS.

About the role

This role is to teach one of our parallel Year 3 classes in September 2019 and then across the Key Stage in future years, providing excellent learning opportunities, taking a full part in the life of the school and building good relationships with current and prospective parents. Whilst working alongside an established colleague, there is plenty of opportunity for the successful candidate to make their own mark on this post, and whilst being well supported, there is scope for initiative and creativity.

Why join our Junior School?

We have an incredibly warm and dynamic staff with a huge passion for teaching. This year we will be running two Year 3 classes parallel to one another for the first time due to the growing interest in attending our school. The successful applicant will need to be able to teach across the Key Stage in subsequent years. The Junior School and Pre-Prep Department are in the same building and also on the same site as the Main School so we have a vibrant, busy school with children aged four to eighteen all together on one location.

At these early days of school life in KS2, we believe that instilling a love of learning is every bit as important as the subjects we teach. We aim to set up a ‘home from home’ where students can flourish. Every family and every child is a unique package, and with our small class sizes, good resources and experienced teachers, we are confident that we provide the best offer available. Year 3 will be supported by a part time teaching assistant who will work in both classes.

As an all-girls school our pupils can play in a carefree manner without being pushed to the corners of the playground by a game of football or cricket. Girls learn differently and in the classroom they are free to express themselves and be heard. Here at The Maynard, we pride ourselves on the fact that girls can take the lead and be as strong and independent in their play as they are in their learning.

Being confident and happy is essential to our girls’ ability to learn and our vision for the Junior School is driven by our desire to empower the children to achieve their best through their journey through our school and beyond into adulthood.

Class teaching in the Junior School entails the delivery of core subjects, PSHCE, Art, ICT, Geography and History. Some of these may be combined in a topic-based approach. Specialist teachers deliver the other subjects for this age group.

Alongside the bespoke care and attention we give to our girls, is the excellent communication we have with parents. Staff are available for a chat before and after school in person, via appointment or by phone or email. We also have regular parent meetings and curriculum evenings.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a top independent girls' day school with a long tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to developing each learner to their full potential.

The Maynard has its own Salary Scale.

Visits prior to interview are welcome.

About The Maynard School

Welcome to The Maynard School!

Set in a leafy area of central Exeter in Devon, we are the leading independent day school for girls aged 4 -18 (Reception – Year 13) in the South West.

Steeped in a rich history dating back to 1658, The Maynard today is so much more than a top academic school. Over the years we have built an outstanding reputation for excellence in the Arts, Music and Sport whilst our pastoral care is widely regarded as second to none.

We are a School where happy girls carve for themselves successful futures, create everlasting friendships and enduring childhood memories.

As the second oldest girls’ school in the country, we pride ourselves on being experts in educating girls. Statistically it is a proven fact that girls in single-sex schools outperform their peers and the Maynard’s long history is testament to this success.

We are an academically selective school and our students achieve outstanding public examination results year-on-year. League tables consistently place us as one of the highest performing schools in the South West.

However, a Maynard education isn’t just about academic achievement. It is about so much more; we boast numerous individual and team champions in the sporting arena with access to some of the best facilities available; we celebrate our femininity and are proud to offer Food & Nutrition and Textiles & Fashion classes as a life-skill; we are one of the highest achieving schools for music and drama in the county; we relish our timetable packed with trips and workshops to be enjoyed by the whole school. But we take our greatest pride from the happy, ambitious and successful students with whom we have the pleasure to work with each day!

At its core, The Maynard is an outstanding school that has deep rooted values and a clear moral purpose. We hope that when your daughter departs for the next stage in her life, she will take with her lasting friendships, have fostered a passion for life as well as learning and own the confidence to take on every new adventure.
