Job overview

Are you a creative and inspiring teacher looking for a subject leader position in a new independent girls’ school?

The Laurels School is seeking to appoint an energetic, creative and inspiring teacher of Physics with the drive to set up the Physics Department at an exciting time in the School’s development.

The Laurels School was founded in 2013 to combine high academic standards and personal development within a Catholic framework.  We currently have years 7 to 11 and a lower sixth form group who study all of sciences at A level. KS3 is taught in year 7-8 and the Science SOW follows an adapted version of Activate.  Year 9’s follow an accelerated curriculum which incorporates the iGCSE with project based learning.  Years 10-11 follow the Edexcel IGCSE syllabus.

The successful candidate will be someone with a proven track record in raising achievement and will have the skills and attributes necessary to motivate students to understand and realise their ambitions.  They will teach Physics from KS3-KS5 in addition to KS3 maths. They will relish working in an environment that is forward-thinking, hard-working and fast-paced.

Applications are invited from an experienced practitioner who is enthused by the opportunity to teach in a well-resourced and highly successful department.  You will have the opportunity to be part of a collaborative environment and contribute to the training of our part-time technician and non-specialist staff.  Interviews will be held week commencing 14th January 2019.

The Laurels School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced disclosure through the DBS.

The Laurels School is an independent day school with a Catholic ethos for girls aged 11 to 18.  The school attracts students from a wide geographical area, extending from parts of north London to Surrey.

The Laurels was judged to be ‘Excellent’ in its 2023 ISI inspection, both for academic achievement and for pupils’ personal development.

Small class sizes are a feature of the school. The school also places emphasis on the role of parents as first educators of their children, so that there is a close and positive working relationship between school and home.

Pupils enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities including Duke of Edinburgh, many sporting options, music, art and Model United Nations.

The school offers a thorough induction programme and a supportive working environment. Staff can park for free on site and lunch is provided free to all employees.
