KS4 English Co-ordinator

Twyford Church of England High School, Acton, London W3 9PP is seeking to appoint a KS4 English Co-ordinator -  for September 2017

We are looking for a KS4 English Co-ordinator in a school which offers excellent opportunities for professional development.

Twyford Church of England High School, an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ school with a thriving Sixth Form, is one of two Twyford Trust schools, with DfE approval to open our third school in the borough of Ealing. The new post-holder will therefore be joining us at a time of growth, offering excellent promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools.

The main purpose of this post is to support the delivery of outstanding outcomes in the KS4 English curriculum - which has always been a strength of the school - and to develop the department’s wider curricular offer. The new post-holder will work closely with the Head of Department and 2 i/c English, both of whom have already led on setting up a curriculum which gives continuity from Year 7 to Year 13, including progression through the new syllabuses.

This is an excellent development opportunity for a teacher with, preferably, several years’ experience to work within a strong team which is well positioned for outstanding delivery at KS4 and KS5. The role will include development work on curriculum, assessment and teaching & learning, and the post-holder will also have the opportunity to build on and develop the wider curricular offer, drawing on students’ interest and enthusiasm for the subject.

The English Department comprises 13 staff, including the Head of Department and 2i/c, and an English-specialist Teaching Assistant.

All students study strands of literature such as poetry, Shakespeare and novels which ensures progression over the key stages. Students are presented with both creative and speaking & listening opportunities. All students are taught in setted groups. At KS4, we currently follow the AQA GCSE syllabus in English Language and in English Literature. KS5 students study the EDEXCEL A-level course in English Literature. All 192 students are entered for GCSE, and we have 84 students taking A-level English Literature in year 12 and 82 in year 13.

In 2016 97.7% of students achieved A*-C in their English Language GCSE. Other results were: English Literature GCSE 82.8% A*-C. AS results were A-C 97.6% (A/B 77.4%) and A2 results were A*-C 96.3% (A*/A 35.4%).

The context - The Twyford Trust

The Twyford Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. The Twyford Trust aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting, and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the Trust is the overarching organisation which provides support for both Trust schools.

Twyford CE High School, Acton

Twyford CE High School was set up by the LDBS in 1981. The school has an excellent reputation and was rated as ‘Outstanding’ in its most recent Ofsted inspection (May 2012). It has developed specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages, as well as a large and highly successful Sixth Form in which Maths, Science and Computing are the largest areas. Since its inception the school has grown considerably and now admits around 975 students aged 11 to 16, and an additional 550 students to the Sixth Form.
