The Stonyhurst Summer Language School is an exciting opportunity for overseas students to immerse themselves in an English and activities-based programme. Students have the opportunity to Join the international Stonyhurst family, making life-long friendships and unforgettable memories.

The Language School Course Director will oversee all aspects of the Summer Language School (SLS), our hugely successful and profitable annual programme that takes place in the Summer recess.

This role will manage the SLS from inception to completion.  This will involve developing the course curriculum in a way that reflects the ethos, mission and traditions of the College whilst ensuring parents and pupils receive an excellent standard of teaching and crucially, value for money.

The Course Director will take the lead on managing relations with Parents, the Stonyhurst Senior Management Team and also prospective staff who will be recruited to work exclusively on the SLS for the duration of the programme.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are therefore a must for this role.

The Course Director will be responsible for completing all the necessary pre-work for the SLS.  It is anticipated that this will be on a part time basis however they will be expected to work at Stonyhurst on a full time basis for the duration of the course, which will run from 8th July 2022 to 5th August 2022 inclusive.

The remuneration for the role is as follows:

£5,000 paid in equal monthly installments across the academic year for the pre-course work.

£4,000 for the four week course.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 5th November 2021.

Interviews will take place week commencing 15th November 2021.

The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Stonyhurst College is the UK’s leading Catholic co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 3-18. Boarding is from the age of 7.

At the College, there are approximately 498 pupils aged 13-18, two thirds of whom are boarders.  At Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall, the adjacent dedicated preparatory school, there are around 240 pupils aged 3-13.  Stonyhurst is set in stunning countryside, near the Ribble and Hodder rivers and the beautiful Trough of Bowland. Manchester is only about an hour away by road or rail. The market town of Clitheroe is four miles away,  and we are 12 miles from the city of Preston. The Lake District can be reached in about an hour,  and the Yorkshire Dales are even closer.

Stonyhurst has a fascinating heritage, being the oldest continuously active Jesuit school in the world.

It was founded in St Omer, Northern France (then the Spanish Netherlands), in 1593, and moved to its present site in Lancashire’s beautiful Ribble Valley in 1794. Throughout the years of religious

persecution in England,  Stonyhurst educated the boys of the English Catholic aristocracy and gentry.

The College’s Ignatian mission and identity,  and its sense of family, set Stonyhurst apart from other schools. Pupils are urged to do as much as they can (Quant Je Puis) for other people following the example of Jesus Christ and following in the spirit and charism of the Jesuits.
