Job overview

We are looking for Language Teachers to join our outstanding school as we grow into our sixth year. William Perkin Church of England High School opened as a Free School in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students, and now has six year groups (7 - 12) totalling almost 1,160 students. The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants. We offer French, German, Spanish, and some Latin, and this role is most suited to applicants who can teach two languages to GCSE and at least one language to A Level.

As language specialism schools, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace place languages as central to their curriculum. All students have languages every day and languages is compulsory at GCSE which means that the students make excellent progress. Our results at GCSE this year were outstanding, the school as a whole came 8th in the country for Progress 8, and the language department was no exception, coming comfortably in the top 5% of similar schools nationally (Fisher Family Trust data). Out of 174 entries with a mixed ability cohort, 40% of our students achieved Grade 7 and above; 65% achieved grade 5 and above and 78% achieved grade 4 and above – well above national averages. The value placed on languages in the school is evident in our A level numbers – our Sixth Form opened in September 2018 and we currently have 22 students studying languages at A level. All languages are offered at A Level.

We additionally run extracurricular Language provision including offering wider languages (from Mandarin to Ancient Greek), national competitions such as the UK Linguistics Olympiad and Foreign Language Spelling Bee, TAFAL project, and clubs around History, Film, Literature and Drama. The Twyford Trust Languages Specialism provides a range of exciting and collaborative ventures, such as trips to target language countries to enable our students to experience and use their language learning in an authentic context.

The school is founded on the successful systems and approaches of Twyford CE High School, with the principle difference that it is a distinctively Christian school with open admission criteria. The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants. The Twyford Trust’s fourth school – Ada Lovelace CE High School – opened in September 2018 and is temporarily based in additional accommodation at the William Perkin site until its own new building opens in September 2020. Ada Lovelace currently has 125 students in Year 7.

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10 year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest attaining Trust in the UK. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum from Yr 7 –Yr 13 which has been devised by staff within the four schools and we have a thriving 6th form co-ordinated across 3 of the school sites. The Trust is also the hub of Teach West London and prides itself on high quality, peer-led CPD within a dynamic culture of self-improvement.
