About Our Lady and St John RC High School, a Voluntary Academy

Our Lady and St John is an 11-16 Catholic Voluntary Aided School situated in Blackburn and part of Salford Diocese. Our strengths are our staff and our students. We have a great team spirit in school and support each other to improve and succeed. As one of our students said to inspectors: "We are like a family here." We have staff and students of various faiths, but all are committed to our school values of Unity, Faith, Truth, Justice, Forgiveness and Industry. These values are routed in our Catholic faith which is about educating the whole child, seeing each individual as sacred and welcoming everyone regardless of gender, faith, ethnicity or sexuality.

We have an excellent CPD programme, using high quality twilights and instructional coaching approaches to support all of our staff to improve. Shared planning time is allocated in the school day to reduce workload and raise standards. Consequently, our curriculum planning and implementation is improving all the time. We also have an extensive extra-curricular programme that is built around timetabled clubs to support staff to contribute without impacting on their work / life balance.

Our support for staff and students is a real strength of the school. We have excellent pastoral provision and a well-established programme to support the mental health of staff and students called the "Healthy Heads" strategy. We have an active staff welfare group who arrange social events and support staff at times of personal difficulty. Our staff enjoy working here and would love to welcome you to our team if you are successful in an application.
