Job overview

An exceptional school: Our vision is a world class education for young people in Newham. Lister is an 11-16 Academy at the heart of its community and part of the Newham Community School Trust.  In our December 2018 Ofsted the inspectors found that the school has maintained the good quality of education and ‘made strong progress in many aspects of the school’s provision‘ since our last inspection in September 2013. Our many strengths are highlighted, including how students are ‘courteous and articulate’ and ‘say they enjoy school and value the wide range of opportunities they are given’. We are very proud that the report recognises our high aspirations, the hard work and good behaviour of our students, and the dedication and commitment of our staff.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  This appointment will be conditional on successful pre-employment and enhanced DBS checks.

Start date as soon as possible – subject to completion of recruitment checks.

LEAD PRACTITIONER IN MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES (Spanish)

Hours:  According to the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions

Leadership Scale 3 - 7 (Inner London)

Required from April or September 2022

We wish to appoint a very strong classroom practitioner, with a proven record in raising student attainment and results, as Lead Practitioner in MFL (Spanish).

The vital importance of Modern Foreign Languages is recognised by the school, and a significant majority of students study languages at GCSE.  Currently the school offers both Mandarin and Spanish, alongside a range of community languages, with the intention being to re-introduce French in the near future.  Therefore, the ability to teach another language in addition to Spanish would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will be an excellent Spanish teacher, with a proven track record, who has the ability to think strategically, analytically and creatively.  The successful applicant will have a clear vision of how languages can make a major contribution to the success of the school, and will also be committed to further raising the profile of languages across the school, with the aim of maximising student participation and enjoyment across all year groups.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work alongside other senior and middle leaders who have high expectations and to engage with a broad range of exceptional CPD tailored to their own professional development needs.  This role will have a major focus on supporting colleagues within the Faculty, and on improving the quality of teaching and learning.  The successful candidate will need to show the vision and skills required to increase the proportion of outstanding lessons taught within the faculty.

Interested candidates are invited to visit the school or arrange a telephone call with the SLT Line Manager for MFL prior to making an application.  Visits and/or telephone calls can be arranged by contacting Adele Lloyd (adele.lloyd@lister.newham.sch.uk).

Interested candidates must submit a completed application form.  This, along with a detailed job description, is available via the school website https://lister.newham.sch.uk/vacancies/

Completed applications must be returned by email to: jobs@lister.newham.sch.uk  by 10:00am on Wednesday 2nd February 2022.  Interviews will be held on Wednesday 9th February 2022.

Please note: applications will be considered as they are received and we reserve the right to close this position before the date specified above.  We therefore urge candidates to submit an application as soon as possible.   Due to high volume of applicants, we will only contact those candidates who have been selected to progress to the next stage of the process. We do not have parking facilities on site.
