The Candidate

We seek to appoint a well-qualified, dynamic and ambitious teacher as a key leader in our Computing Faculty, both at our Main Campus, and at our cutting-edge Facility for the most able students, the Nexus Campus and Cornwall School of Maths and Science. The Nexus Campus is the home of both the Gifted STEM Programme which develops and nurtures the most able students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and CSMS, which makes provision and enrichment for the most able at Post-16 Sciences and Maths. The Gifted STEM Programme is described as ‘Breathtaking’ by NACE the National charity for able children in education.

This post is an ideal opportunity for an inspirational teacher whose passion is teaching and learning and who enjoys being in the classroom, motivating and inspiring both students and colleagues alike. The successful candidate will bring creative and innovative ideas to the Science faculty and STEM programme. They will be able to demonstrate significant impact in their previous or current roles. This post affords scope for colleagues who wish to progress in their career and would provide a platform for the next career step to be senior leadership. The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom teacher in their career to date and will display excellent leadership and teamwork skills. They will have presence, personality and the ‘wow factor’.

As well as demonstrating excellent teaching skills, the successful candidate will lead on identified areas. Depending on the strengths of the candidate, these may include whole school or subject specific responsibilities. Successful candidates will innovate, inspire and engage students and staff in their subject, and will work across both the Main Campus and the Nexus Campus to achieve this. 

Computing is a high achieving and dynamic faculty. Results are outstanding and students make excellent progress. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that A-level results are consistently amongst the best in the country.

The successful candidate will be given full support in their career development as we believe that development of staff is a key aspect in raising standards for our students.

Nexus Gifted Programme

The Nexus campus offers students who are especially able a chance to thrive and shine in their chosen fields of study. The Nexus Gifted Programme offers a bespoke curriculum designed to engage and challenge gifted learners. Alongside this specially designed curriculum, students experience a rich co-curricular programme that complements the curriculum and deepens and develops the scholarship of these students. Students keep a broad and balanced curriculum but can choose to specialise in STEM or Liberal Arts fields after Year 9.


The VI Form Academy

Our VI Form offers a wide range of A-Levels and equivalent courses. We are fortunate to attract students who wish to follow an academic pathway from Camborne and other local schools. VI Form numbers are growing steadily but class sizes are still maintained at a level where individual support can be readily offered.

Results are excellent with a 100% pass rate for the sixth consecutive year across a range of 27 A-Level subjects. Furthermore, the progress made by VI Form students places them in the top 10% of the country and the top state-funded Post 16 provider in Cornwall.


Cornwall School of Mathematics and Science (CSMS)

CSMS provides excellent specialist teaching and enrichment for the most ambitious A Level students in Cornwall, preparing them for the most competitive courses at the best universities in the UK. It is part of the VI Form Academy, which is ranked as the top State-funded STEM A-Level Provider in Cornwall. At CSMS we believe in a traditional approach to teaching and learning.
