Support and enrich the experiences of our students! We are currently looking to appoint a qualified or an aspiring Lead Practitioner of Maths to join us at Harris Girls' Academy Bromley to start in April or September 2023.

The successful candidate must be able to teach A Level Maths and will ensure high standards of teaching and learning across the subject area through continuously developing and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.

Main Areas of Responsibility

The purpose of your role will be:

  • Raise the quality of learning and teaching and attainment of students within the Maths faculty and across the academy; working to ensure that Maths teaching specifically and the whole academy teaching generally is good or outstanding.
  • Your Maths lessons are an example of model practice within Maths and they will engage students and ensure that all students make exceptional progress. You will have an open door policy for observations at all times.
  • Leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of others within the Maths faculty and across the academy.
  • Produce high quality differentiated teaching and learning resources and materials for use across the Maths faculty.
  • Plan lessons independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Work alongside the CAL to coach staff in order to develop and improve their teaching skills.
  • Observe lessons across the academy informally and formally as part of the Gaining Ground programme, feedback to teachers and set appropriate targets; hold staff to account for those targets.
  • Work with the CAL to take a lead role in intervention across the Maths faculty.
  • Provide model lessons to support colleagues improving their classroom practice.
  • Support the CAL with regard to schemes of work, policies, performance management and the implementation of national subject strategies.
  • Advise and train teachers on classroom management and organisation, lesson planning and appropriate pedagogy.
  • Provide advice and training on positive behaviours for learning.
  • Participate and lead in the mentoring of newly qualified teachers within Maths, assist teachers experiencing difficulties and ensure those receiving support develop sustainable practice.
  • Advise on the provision of in-service training, lead groups of staff in continual professional development activities in area of expertise and evaluate outcomes.
  • In time, you may be asked to complete in-reach work primarily with local primary schools and teach pupils in key stage 2 to support their Maths education as part of the academy's transition between key stage 2 and key stage 3.
  • To support whole school priorities and targets for the Maths faculty.
  • Deliver CPD to groups of all sizes including whole staff inset on training days.
  • Provide subject specific advice, drawing on up-to-date research and developments.
  • Support the performance management process as required.
  • Effectively use data to inform subject developments.
  • Produce and maintain records of work within the Maths faculty and across the academy.
  • To support the Faculty Director and the Academy Leadership Group in all aspects of the Gaining Ground programme as appropriate.
  • Engage in outreach activities on a local and national level as appropriate and needed.
  • Lead on Maths intervention for Year 7 to 11.
  • Develop a vision, create an action plan and build momentum around an agreed whole school responsibility,
  • To take on any additional duties as requested by the SMT, and appropriate to a member of staff on the leadership scale.
  • To continue personal development in the relevant areas, including subject knowledge and teaching methods.
  • To work as a member of a designated team and to contribute positively to effective working relations within the Academy.
  • To help to implement Academy self-evaluation and review procedures and to adhere to those.
  • To contribute to the process of monitoring and evaluation of the subject area/tutor programmes in line with agreed Academy procedures, including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a good, relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Be an excellent teacher with a minimum of two years' teaching experience.
  • Have proven success in raising achievement.
  • Have experience of leading others, ensuring high quality performance.
  • Have successful experience in implementation of monitoring, evaluation and review process to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate a high level of ICT skills and experience of how new technologies can be used to raise achievement.
  • Have recent experience of involvement in innovative curriculum development.
  • Have experience of presenting to a wide audience including teachers, other managers, students and parents.
  • Understand creative whole school strategies for improving literacy and numeracy and the importance of this in raising achievement.
  • Have some successful experience of leading on cross subject initiatives that have contributed to raising achievement.
  • Have experience of embedding innovative strategies for Assessment for Learning and Learning to Learn.
  • Have recent and relevant experience of managing and implementing change successfully at subject leader level.
  • Be willing to use coaching as a model for ensuring on-going professional development.
