Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and motivated practitioner, who will inspire other math’s teachers to develop their practice. The role of the lead practitioner in math’s is essential in our drive to achieve the highest standard of teaching and learning in every classroom, through individual coaching and mentoring and delivering INSET or training as required. As HCACP is a teaching school you may also have the opportunity to work in other schools supporting best practice in mathematics.

Mathematics at Harris City Academy Crystal Palace The Mathematics team is a dynamic and innovative department with a consistent track record of delivering excellent progress and results for students. The department currently consists of fifteen teachers under the leadership of joint Faculty Directors, a Head of Maths and a Second in Charge of Maths. The department is a well-resourced Curriculum area with ten classrooms. The Mathematics Department is committed to stimulating and inspiring students to be enthusiastic about the natural patterns in the world around them. We aim to encourage and equip all students with a broad range of mathematical skills in order to be successful in a highly competitive environment. Within the Mathematics department, we:

  • Set high expectations for all learners and staff alike, recognising and celebrating achievements;
  • Develop learners’ basic mathematical skills and numeracy to enable them to become confident mathematicians and to take responsibility for their own economic prosperity;
  • Develop learners into considerate, confident, ambitious and motivated individuals;
  • Use ICT and regular homework to extend subject knowledge, develop independent learning skills and enrich learners’ learning experience;
  • Provide an inclusive and differentiated curriculum that develops learners socially, morally, spiritually and culturally;
  • Identify opportunities to advance students’ literacy levels;
  • Create a positive learning ethos in which staff and learners feel supported and cared for.

The Key Stage 3 Curriculum is a three year course between Years 7 to 9, with the view of giving students a good grounding in Mathematical skills and applying them. Students benefit from the use of traditional textbook and worksheet resources, as well as electronic and interactive resources, which aims to cover the KS3 National Curriculum. The content of the course has been grouped into the key topic areas of Number, Algebra, Shape, Data handling and Functional Maths.

Key Stage 4 students commence the AQA 9-1 GCSE Mathematics course from Year 10 through to Year 11. The GCSE Mathematics course encourages students to develop confidence in, and a positive attitude towards, mathematics and to recognise the importance of the subject in their own lives and to society. This course prepares students to make informed decisions about the use of technology, the management of money, further learning opportunities and career choices.
