It is a privilege to welcome you to The Excel Academy which is once again, one of the highest performing academies in the City. Over 64% of our students achieved a grade C in both English and Mathematics in 2016. This figure is above the national average and means we remain one of the highest performing academies locally.

Of course, The Excel Academy is not solely focused on academic achievement but we ‘expect excellence’ in all areas of personal development. For example, our long tradition of success in the sporting arena continued this year and was our most successful ever. Our Year 11 boys were crowned U16 County Football Champions and then our Year 7 boys equalled that by winning the U12 County Football Final. Not to be outdone, our Year 8 girls won the U13 County Football Final. A huge number of our young sports people also won Town, City and County honours during the year. Well done! Our singers and dancers - who perform regularly at the Victoria Hall and other major venues produced outstanding performances at our Annual Achievement Awards evening at the Victoria Hall and at our Sports Awards evening and our Summer concert.

We have recently welcomed our new Year 7 intake who are the largest group to join us. Our intake has increased by 60% over the past three years as we have established a reputation for high standards but also an ethos of care for each individual child. Recent Parents’ Evenings show that students are proud to attend the Academy.

I have been in post since the beginning of 2016 and I believe that The Excel Academy has many strengths and is starting to realise its potential. I am excited by the prospect of the next phase of development. The support the Academy receives as being part of ‘The College Academies Trust’ is excellent and I look forward to working with the students, teachers, governors and families to continue the drive on raising standards.

Our ethos is one of ‘Pride and Respect’. Teamwork underpins success and we believe that ‘everyone can improve’ with the right support and attitude. The relationships between home and the Academy are fundamental to our success. Working together in partnership we can ensure that every child enjoys their time at Excel, makes outstanding progress and leaves here as responsible, well-qualified, mature young people, ready to make a valued contribution to society.
