This is an exciting new post with our core vision in mind; the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning. This will include the continuing development of our curriculum so that teachers can engage and inspire future generations of our students. The successful candidate will be a classroom teacher of the highest calibre, who can mentor other teacher colleagues, both inexperienced and experienced, inspiring them to become more effective practitioners.
 

All Lead Practitioners have responsibilities both within and beyond their department and therefore the role provides outstanding professional development opportunities as well as providing an excellent opportunity for an ambitious colleague to develop their leadership skills further. They will work closely on a daily basis with the Deputy Headteacher: Teaching and Learning.
 

The successful candidate will have:

• A genuine love of Science and its impact on young people’s lives;

• A proven track record of raising and maintaining high educational standards in Science;

• Significant experience of leading teaching and learning initiatives beyond their own classroom to raise standards;

• An acute awareness of how Science can engage and inspire young people;

• Ability to interpret and act on a wide range of key data;

• An excellent knowledge of curriculum development and examination schemes of work;

• Ability to successfully build teams and motivate others;

• Have the ability to engage and inspire pupils and build excellent relationships.

Biddick Academy is a co-educational secondary school based in Washington, near Sunderland, for students aged 11-16. 

In 1997, Biddick was one of the first 11 schools in England to become a specialist sports college. The academy’s facilities include a sports hall, a dance studio, a fitness suite, a gymnasium, a full-size 3G pitch, floodlit tennis courts, a theatre and ICT suites.
