Job overview

Shape the future of Maths. For the Trust that’s reshaping Britain’s schools.

OGAT is a large Trust focussing on improving standards in the north of England – and we are looking for an outstanding candidate to help us.

We know that the key to great outcomes in mathematics at GCSE and beyond lies in setting firm foundations in Key Stage 3. Pupils have had a turbulent few years in education and their experience of learning through these times will be varied depending on where they live and which school they attended. We want to ensure that the knowledge gaps between those who have and those who have not had the best provision do not widen any further. We hope that you are the right person to join us on that journey.

We can demonstrate an impressive record in GCSE Maths, we achieve higher than national average on the key measures (now 5+ and 4+) in many of our academies even though our students enter our academies below National Average. Of this, we are extremely proud. What’s more, we are the lead in the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub, which has a national profile under the leadership of our Executive Director of Maths Kathryn Greenhalgh who also chairs the National Maths Hub Council.

You will build on this success and take us to the next level, working closely with the Maths Directors, the SEND teams and senior leadership at the academies we work with. We need your experience of transforming pupils’ lives through enabling them to achieve age related and beyond in a primary setting to help us further shape our transition and catch-up programme in Key Stage 3.

If you are already committed to working in a wider role, we would still welcome your application, as we will discuss a flexible approach for the right candidate.

Chances are you will be an experienced Primary Maths Lead, a Primary Mastery Specialist; perhaps an experienced Year 6 teacher with knowledge and understanding of successful intervention approaches. You will certainly possess everything required to take a strategic lead on responding to academies’ needs, which will include a teaching timetable, intervening with small groups of students, leading training on intervention, mentoring KS3 teachers to get the best out of their classes.

Needless to say, you will be an inspiring leader with real vision and passion – and the drive and determination to make things happen.

Please contact Kathryn Greenhalgh, Executive Director of Maths, on 07590 351752 for an informal discussion, or to arrange a visit to any of our academies.

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools offer:

  • The opportunity to work and progress across the Family of Schools.
  • The chance to apply for leadership roles in the Deeps working across the whole Academy.
  • A further comprehensive programme of professional development provided through Outwood Institute of Education (formerly the Teaching School).

Understanding the importance of excellent learning and teaching, you will have a genuine regard for young people and high professional standards.

You can help us take things to the next level.

Achieving Academy status in February 2016 as part of the Outwood Grange Academies Trust, Outwood Academy Carlton is going from strength to strength. Based in the attractive village of Carlton, we offer an exceptional education and are enjoying significant improvement across every key measure and in every subject. In January 2019, Ofsted noted that “Leaders at all levels are resolute in their belief that pupils are entitled to the highest quality of education and this is reflected in their actions. Capacity for improvement in the future is strong”.

Outwood Academy Carlton is situated in North East Barnsley and is easily accessible from South and West Yorkshire, with Wakefield, Sheffield, Doncaster, Huddersfield and Pontefract all within commuting distance. We are just 5 miles from the M1.

The Academy benefits from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools, which affords opportunities for staff to work and progress across several schools if desired. All staff are guaranteed a minimum of two hours CPD per week and a further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through our own network of teaching schools.

If you care about the success of your students and colleagues, and have the energy and determination to make that success a reality, we would welcome your application.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.
