Bobby Moore Academy is looking to recruit an experienced Lead Science Technician / Senior Technician to join our Science Department.

Bobby Moore Academy is an all through school, providing a world-class education for the children of east London which is transformational in its impact on their life chances. We are situated across two iconic sites on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and our Secondary phase is now heavily oversubscribed. We are building partnerships with the new East Bank development, bringing incredible opportunities to the young people of East London.

Since the school was founded in 2017, we have set ambitious academic standards backed up by exciting enrichment opportunities, whilst nurturing and caring for the wellbeing of every child. At capacity, our two sites will accommodate over 1500 pupils, including a Sixth Form which opened in September 2022. The academy will grow year on year to reach full capacity in 2024.

We expect the highest standards from our pupils and staff, and we are looking for someone who will be genuinely inspired by the chance to apply their knowledge and experience in a setting designed to be among the best of its kind in the country.

About the role 

This is a Permanent post, 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (includes 5 INSET days).

This role will require you to:

Lead and manage the technician team by providing a professional, positive, pro-active and creative approach to all areas of the role.

To manage and delegate roles within the department

Prepare of materials for practical lessons within the department

Prepare of chemical solutions, biological specimens etc.

Supervise the set-up, test and preparation of apparatus, equipment, machinery, chemicals and/or materials following statutory health and safety requirements to support specific learning requirements within the delivery of the curriculum

Who we are looking for 

A good standard of education, including literacy and numeracy

GCSEs or equivalent in Sciences and Maths

A Level or equivalent in Science

A science degree is highly desirable

Working knowledge of health and safety, including COSHH and carrying out risk assessments.

Knowledge and experience of practical science up to Key stage 4 and at least one specific course to A level (preferably chemistry)

Awareness of standard procedures e.g. titrations and making up standard solutions

Good communication skills
