Job overview

LEAD TEACHER OF ENGLISH

(TLR 2.8 £6,449 per annum)

Required September 2017

The de Ferrers Academy has gained a reputation for high levels of academic achievement, demonstrated by the fact that the 2016 results at GCSE and A-level are the best on record.  We have a positive ethos and excellent staff/student relationships, we value our staff and are committed to their personal and professional development.    In recent years, the Academy has developed a national reputation for innovation and success in Learning technologies and ICT.   The Academy is an Apple Regional Training Centre, with 1:1 use of iPads for all Key Stage 4 and 5 students.

Lead Teachers at the Academy are outstanding practitioners who lead by raising standards of teaching and learning both in their own faculty and across the Academy.  They fully support, contribute to and lead the professional development of staff and are fully committed to ensuring students maximise their potential.

The English Faculty consists of twenty members of staff, with different specialisms including Literature, Language and Media.  Emphasis is placed upon a lively and imaginative display of students' work, providing them with a stimulating environment in which to learn.

Literature and reading are central to the teaching of English at de Ferrers, though of course, much emphasis is placed on writing too: students are encouraged to write for a variety of audiences and purposes.  Wherever possible, members of the team are encouraged to teach the full spectrum of age and ability.  Recent Ofsted reports commented on the “lively teaching which predominates within the Area” and noted that the atmosphere in lessons is “busy and productive”. Ofsted also found that “Pupils make rapid progress from their starting points in all years and across almost all subjects, including English” and “In 2016, students made significantly better than average progress in English language.”  The successful applicant will be required to teach up to Key Stage 5.

All prospective candidates are very welcome to visit the Academy, to tour and meet with members of the faculty, and meet with our students.  We are situated on the rural outskirts of Burton upon Trent, within easy access of Birmingham, Nottingham and Derby.  As the Academy of choice for the local area, you will feel part of a supported community and, most importantly, a warm and friendly environment in which to educate our young people.  We offer an employee reward package which includes car leasing discounts and our own independent travel consultant.

This role offers an exceptional opportunity to the successful candidate.   If you wish to join this dynamic Academy, we look forward to hearing from you.   A full job description and application forms can be accessed via the Academy’s website, or alternatively please contact Samantha Lawless on 01283 239936.   Please note completed applications should be received by 9:00 am on the closing date.

Closing date : Tuesday 23rd May 2017
