Job overview

Exeter Mathematics School (EMS) is a unique 6th form, created to meet the needs of able Mathematics students throughout the South West. Jointly sponsored by the University of Exeter and Exeter College, it opened in September 2014.  The school is a learning community in which students' needs are at the centre. EMS students expect high levels of challenge coupled with thoughtful support and guidance, working in an atmosphere that fosters creative and rigorous thinking, encourages enquiry and engenders confidence in problem solving.

Since opening, Computer Science has become an increasingly popular subject, with a greater proportion of students electing to study it year on year.  We are now expanding our teaching team to include a Lead Teacher of Computer Science that will expand our A-level curriculum beyond the core specification and will develop an outreach program for Computer Science that is as comprehensive as our existing programmes for Mathematics and Physics.

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational, highly-qualified, innovative and reflective teacher to lead the development of Computer Science, building on prior successes.  You must be committed to developing pedagogy and collaborative working and be able to challenge, stretch and support the most able students as they prepare to study mathematics-related degrees, including Computer Science, at top universities.  You will be instrumental in the further development of the school, particularly outreach activities held within the school day and at weekends. A commitment to making a positive difference to students and teachers in our catchment area is essential.

This role would commence from September 2018.  EMS is a small school, catering for just 120 students.  You will be one of only 10 teachers in the school; as part of a small team, you will need to work flexibly and will have a significant role in the ongoing development of the school and its curriculum.

EMS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to satisfactory DBS checks, together with the receipt of references.

Further information about the school, additional information for prospective applicants and an application form are available on our website: www.exetermathematicsschool.ac.uk/job- opportunities.

The final closing date is 12pm Monday 5th February, however applications will be considered as received.

Application deadline: 12pm on Friday 26th January.

Interviews will take place on Wednesday 7th February.
