Job overview

Scarborough College, an award winning school ranked in the Top 3 UK Small Independent Schools in 2017, is seeking a dynamic, inspiring and committed Lead Teacher of English within its Prep School from September.

The most suitable candidates will be subject specialists with a real passion for English and for developing pupils' skills in reading, writing, speaking and drama.  The post-holder will take responsibility for the planning, delivery and development of English across the entire Prep School and will teach lessons within Years 3 to 8.  For those seeking further professional development and challenge, some teaching at GCSE and/or IB Level within the adjoining Senior School can be made available.

Scarborough College is a delightful and rewarding school in which to work with motivated children, supportive parents and colleagues, superb facilities and a glorious location just five minutes from the beach.  An average class size of 12 within the Prep School ensures dedicated teachers can make a genuine difference to every child.

With a £3 million refurbishment and extension of its boarding facilities underway and a £2 million investment into new sports facilities on the horizon, the post-holder will be joining the College at one of the most exciting times in its history.

The North Yorkshire area with its coastline, national parks and market towns is a beautiful location in which to live and work; the quality of life is high and the cost of living low.

The appointed candidate will enjoy a competitive salary with many further benefits which include a 66% remission on tuition fees for dependents across both the Prep and Senior Schools.  A residential position with accommodation provided may be available to a candidate who has an interest in a role within our boarding community.

Scarborough College Prep School is a fully accredited member of IAPS.

The closing date for applications is Monday 5 March at 4pm and interviews will be held during the week beginning 12 March.

Values and Vision

Above all, our commitment is to discover and fully realise every child’s potential by ensuring that all pupils are seen as individuals whose specific needs are recognised and met.  We are dedicated to providing a far-reaching education that goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom, underpinned by strong lifelong values, which inspires academic excellence and ensures pupils are challenged. Regular opportunities to understand their own capabilities through exposure to a broad range of sporting, cultural and creative activities, widens our pupils’ horizons and builds their self‑confidence.  Within our outward-facing, grounded and caring community the relationships that exist nurture tolerant, honest and compassionate people who will make a genuine difference in their futures beyond the confines of our school.

Ofsted

“Pupils achieve well in a school that they like. Pupils make good progress in the EYFS, the junior school and the senior school. Results in the GCSE, which have generally improved over recent years, show that pupils make good progress and sixth form pupils also attain good results in the International Baccalaureate (IB). Factors contributing to the pupils’ achievement are the very good attitudes to work which pupils bring to the classroom and the good teaching they receive.”
