Lead Teacher of Health and Social Care and Lead Internal Verifier

M1 - UPS3: £28,000 - £43,685 per annum plus TLR 2B (£5,023)

Required from September 2023/January 2024

The Joseph Whitaker School is a popular 11-18 school, in Rainworth, a village just outside of Mansfield. It serves the three local villages of Blidworth, Rainworth and Ravenshead and has around 1370 students.

The Governors are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Teacher of Health and Social Care, who will also fulfil the role of Lead internal verifier for the whole school.

The successful candidate must be energetic with a passion and commitment for the subject; this is an exciting opportunity for an existing leader or classroom teacher, with some experience of vocational/BTEC teaching to secure a middle leadership role, as the Lead Internal Verifier.

The successful candidate will be passionate and be able to work as a member of the Social Sciences faculty, to ensure the consistent promotion of learning and to secure the best outcomes for all of our students.

As a school we offer:

  • a strong team environment that takes staff well-being seriously
  • a dedicated Senior Leadership Team who want to see colleagues progress and flourish in their careers
  • support from the wider Trust including numerous CPD opportunities
  • access to Schools’ Advisory Service, offering mental health and wellbeing support to staff
  • Generous employer contribution to Local Government and Teacher Pensions Scheme

Please email headteacher@josephwhitaker.org if you would like to arrange a tour of the school prior to application and/or interview. Alternatively, please view our school website www.josephwhitaker.org

An application pack with further information about the role can be downloaded by clicking on the apply button. Applications must be made on an EMET application form. CVs will not be accepted. No agencies.

On the application form, please focus on a detailed 'supporting statement' taking into account the person specification and indicating why you would be the best person for us to recruit to this position.

The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification in order to be offered the post, will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Safeguarding checks will be undertaken during the recruitment process and this may include online searches.

We welcome applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion.

Closing date for applications is 10am on Monday 12th June 2023.

We do reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications. Interviews may take place sooner to enable a September 2023 start.

As Headteacher I am immensely proud of the school and the quality of education it provides. Our aspirations are for the school to ‘Be Outstanding’ in all facets of our provision.  There should be no limit to the level of achievement possible for each and every student. The school caters for students of all abilities from Oxbridge applicants to those with special educational needs.  The recently added ‘Proud to be me, Proud to be us’ motto is creating an highly inclusive culture in which all students thrive.

Our aim is to ensure that The Joseph Whitaker School provides an outstanding level of education, a school that the community can be proud of. We want every pupil to achieve the highest possible academic outcomes and this is our number one priority. We know that this will only happen by providing the highest standards of teaching and pastoral support. We are also extremely proud of the wide range of opportunities we provide and we continue to value students’  achievements across a variety of areas, including sport, the performing arts and in the wider community.

Expectations of staff, students and parents are high. In accepting a place at The Joseph Whitaker School you are automatically agreeing to our policies and practices. Students must also take personal responsibility and realise that the levels of effort and commitment they show will be reflected in their final examination outcomes.  We maintain a well ordered and calm environment with high standards of dress. Students are expected to be polite and courteous at all times. Visitors frequently comment on the ‘community feel’ of the school and the friendliness of the students.

The school has been Ofsted graded Good since 2010, most recently in March 2019, and outcomes remain consistently high in comparison to national standards.  We became a part of the East Midlands Education Trust (EMET) in September 2016. The talents of schools together become greater than the sum of their parts and collaboration between the Trust schools is reaping rewards.

Achieving the best possible examination outcomes, having the necessary employability skills and becoming good citizens are the three key objectives we would want to be measured against.

Physical Education facilities consist of a fully equipped sports hall; a purpose built gymnasium, a dance studio and spacious changing rooms.  A full size all-weather football pitch has also recently opened.
