Allestree Woodlands School is an extremely successful, oversubscribed 11-18 school, providing high quality education for 1355 students (246 Post-16). The school is situated on the northern edge of Derby City overlooking ‘Green Belt’ areas. The Science faculty consists of general Science at Key Stage 3, Combined Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Key Stage 4 and post-16 study of Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry and Physics being extremely popular at Key Stage 5. Science is a high attaining faculty and the school has seen consistent and increasingly impressive progress in this area. A significant number of our A-level students go on to follow medicine or Science related degrees at top Universities including Oxford and Cambridge.
At Allestree Woodlands we strive to encourage pupils to achieve their full potential by developing their skills through scientific enquiry and practical tasks; recognising the usefulness and limitations of scientific methods in their everyday lives. We encourage students to explore science, its coverage in the media and how to analyse and evaluate sources presented to them.
The department moved into a new building with nine full laboratories in October 2015 which enables us to give students excellent practical opportunities as well as presenting staff with a very comfortable working environment.
We are looking for a qualified teacher who is a talented, dynamic and ambitious to join our team as subject lead for Physics from September 2019. The successful applicant should be innovative and able to inspire, should set high standards of teaching and learning. The school offers a very personal and professional supportive environment.
