The Royal Latin School is a co-educational state grammar school of 1310 students including a large sixth form of around 445.  We became an Academy in 2011 and have a long tradition of providing an excellent quality of education with high expectations for all our students.

At the Royal Latin we are incredibly proud of our vibrant school.  Having recently celebrated our 600th anniversary, we are proud of our long history.  At the same time we are keen to build on these foundations and have created an innovative approach to developing our approach to teaching & learning.

The tireless efforts of our teaching and support staff have built a thriving school community; one that is recognised as such by our students, parents, staff and governors.  We are absolutely determined to continue to build on our strong sense of community, supporting our students to develop the knowledge, skills and qualities necessary to be happy and to reach their academic and personal potential.

The school community is proud of our Latin Values and Virtues that underpin everything that we do.  We seek to develop happy students with:

  • The INTEGRITY to LEAD
  • The RESILIENCE to ASPIRE
  • The RESPECT for TEAMWORK
  • The COURAGE to INNOVATE
  • The COMPASSION to NURTURE

We are proud of our well-developed curriculum and wide ranging enrichment provision.  We believe that an outstanding education should also involve opportunities to learn in a variety of settings, including in the wider community, through our Enrichment Days and through curricular and extracurricular trips and visits.

Being a selective state grammar school with single-academy status may suggest to some a certain stereotype.  This could not be further from the truth!  During the last decade we were at times the least-well-funded secondary school (per student) in the country.  Against this backdrop our Development Programme has raised over £10m to deliver major improvements in our facilities, of which we are unashamedly proud.  Our commitment to students’ mental health and well-being has ensured that the young people we support achieve remarkable personal growth in addition to outstanding exam success.  For example between the ages of 11 and 16, our students make progress that puts us in the top 11% of schools in the country.

Our website (www.royallatin.org) will give you further insight into the ethos and nature of the school as well as details of our policies.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.  If you would like to visit us, we would be delighted to welcome you to the school.
