‘Join our Journey to Amazing’

University Academy Keighley (UAK)

UAK is situated just 10 miles from Bradford city centre and is easily accessible by both car and public transport. We are experiencing times of change and are excited by what the future holds for all our staff, students and the community in which we serve. We are now officially graded as a ‘Good’ School. For the last 3 years we have obtained Progress 8 scores in line with national averages illustrating the significant potential for improvement. UAK is joining the ambitious and expanding Carlton Multi-Academy Trust later this year. The MAT has grown out of the success of Carlton Bolling College, a large Bradford secondary school. Carlton Bolling has been on a rapid improvement journey over recent years, which has seen the school progress from an Ofsted rating of Inadequate (Special Measures) to Outstanding in just under two years, and was recently awarded Secondary School of the Year at the Pearson Education Awards

Life at UAK

Firstly, you can be assured if you join the team at UAK that you will be part of a supportive, hardworking and committed organisation. We care about our staff and work hard to ensure your personal development is a priority in order to support your career aspirations and goals. We invest in training and CPD programmes both internally and externally to ensure you are equipped with the tools and skills to be the best you can be. You will be joining an academy that is well resourced and you will be expected to teach across the age and ability range. You will act as a Form Tutor and deliver a bespoke academy programme that focuses on developing the whole child.

The Lead Teacher (Practitioner) role

Due to rapid growth, the appointed candidate will work alongside the Director of Faculty (Maths) to further improve the quality of teaching and learning and student outcomes.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a real passion for teaching and learning, who will play a key role in developing the pedagogy of teaching staff with the academy. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning, and work closely with the Director of Faculty (Maths) to maximise student progress, by ensuring that all lessons are delivered to the highest quality and standards are consistently high. Professional development is at the heart of school improvement, and the successful candidate will be expected to deliver high quality, research informed, CPD sessions within the faculty and at a whole school/trust level. The candidate can expect to receive a bespoke professional development programme to continue their personal journey.

What you will need to succeed

You may currently be an experienced teacher looking for a new challenge or a recently qualified teacher looking for a school who will offer a tailored programme of support and development. We ask that you have a positive attitude to change, intelligence, high levels of integrity and the capacity for sustained periods of hard work. Alongside a commitment to a culture of continuous improvement within an inclusive environment, you will have the ability to motivate and inspire students and possess a high level of interpersonal and communication skills.

What you will get in return

We are a school, who pride ourselves on having motivated and respectful students. You will benefit from an excellent teaching environment housed in a new, purpose built and well- resourced building. With an excellent programme of CPD built around your current skills and experience you can be confident that your personal development will be at the top of our priority list. Choosing the ‘right’ school to build and further your career aspirations is an important decision and we welcome and encourage prospective applicants to come and visit us where you will see first-hand our facilities, resources and more importantly our delightful young people.

Carlton Keighley is a small community secondary school, set in an attractive semi-rural location. The school has had a remarkable re-birth and improvement over recent years, starting when Carlton Academy Trust began its’ involvement at the forerunner school UAK in 2018. The school was in challenging financial circumstances, running at barely half student capacity with extremely poor relations between staff and school leaders. Academic standards were poor, with the school included in Ofsted ‘Stuck Schools’ research concerning the small minority of schools nationally which had never been rated at least ‘Good’.

Despite these considerable challenges, the school made rapid progress from this point and gained its’ first ever ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted in January 2020, is now in a very secure financial position and enjoys a rapidly expanding school roll. Although a remarkable journey, this is not the limit of the school’s ambitions as it aspires to the Trust motto of ‘Excellence for All’ and become an outstanding school over the next few years. As such, aspirations of all students are high and don’t allow the significant disadvantages that they face to be an excuse for poor outcomes. Teaching and learning is the focus of everything we do, investing in staff through regular, high-quality research-led professional development.

Carlton Keighley is a good place to work with helpful, friendly, and supportive staff and excellent standards of student behaviour and conduct which promote a calm, purposeful atmosphere within lessons and around school. Staff welfare is a priority, and we strive to preserve a proper work-life balance through small class sizes, early Friday finishes, with meetings and paperwork kept to an absolute minimum.

We hope you are excited by the schools’ improvement journey and look forward to welcoming applications from colleagues who share our values and ambition to deliver excellence for the young people of Keighley
