| Position Requirements | Pedagogical Mentor 0.2 FTE: Pedagogical Mentors are recognised as highly effective, experienced and skilled classroom practitioners. They are knowledgeable and active members of the school who will work collaboratively with the Principal and school leadership team to contribute to improved student literacy and numeracy learning outcomes through: • modelling high quality teaching within and across the school community • working collaboratively with teachers to develop and refine their teaching practice • focussing on a stage/grade with the intention of working with all teachers over time • supporting teachers using the coaching cycles to improve an identified area of practice • supporting the facilitation and leading of PLTs in schools • supporting the provision of professional learning to staff • collaborate with and meet regularly with the School Leadership Team Leading Teacher 0.3FTE: Leading Teacher provide support to teachers and students in implementing explicit strategies to improve student learning with a focus on K-2 in literacy and numeracy. A Leading Teacher will work with school staff to provide: • Focused support for the teaching of Mathematics and English • Support to the school in developing, mentoring and evaluating school improvement plans (SIP) against four key areas for improvement • Assistance with the provision of relevant professional development opportunities for teachers in the areas of literacy and numeracy • Support to identified students in K-2 adopting a 3-tiered approach: whole class; small group; individual intervention to improve learning and achievement particularly with regards to Maths The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has an abiding commitment to promote the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults - particularly those who participate in the life of the Diocese. | Essential Criteria | • Minimum of five years classroom teaching experience; • Proven student success through effective use of literacy and numeracy data to assess and provide feedback and optimise educational outcomes; • Demonstrated ability to support and enhance a culture of continuous improvement within the school environment; • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully alongside colleague teachers; • Demonstrated capacity to think and act strategically; to exercise sound judgement; and to collaborate with the Principal and School Leadership team in leading pedagogical practice within the school; • Evidence of strong pedagogical and evidence based practice and experience in designing contemporary and innovative learning opportunities in collaboration with teachers; • Ability to plan and evaluate collaboratively with teachers and to model and share best practice within the school environment and across the system of schools; • Demonstrate ability to build the capacity of classroom teachers K-2 in teaching literacy & numeracy; • Hold excellent understanding and knowledge of the processes for both, teaching literacy, teaching mathematics and diagnosing student needs and analysing student data including school and standardised assessments; • Sound knowledge of processes for analysing NAPLAN data and its implications for interventions, programs and ways to improve teaching; • Ability to plan and work with classroom teachers in developing differentiated strategies for students in achieving results in literacy and numeracy; • Ability to work with classroom teachers to plan, implement, track and report on individual learning goals, progress and achievement for identified students. |

St Joseph’s Primary School is a mixed, independent, mainstream, Roman Catholic primary school in Bulahdelah. The school caters to students from Kindergarten to Year 6 who come from Bulahdelah, Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest.
St Joseph’s Primary School was founded in 1955 by the Sisters of St Joseph and is still an important part of St Brigid’s Parish.

Facilities
The school has recently undergone a refurbishment to modernise its facilities. It has a strong emphasis on I.T., with laptops and interactive smartboards for students to use. The school also provides teaching and learning programmes that includes K to 6 guided reading, Count Me In Too, Minilit and Lexia reading to help improve pupils’ literacy and understanding. The school also integrates environmental initiatives to teach its students about sustainability.
Curriculum
The curriculum emphasises the importance of the core subjects of maths and English but it stresses that academics need to be included alongside extra-curricular activities. Alongside choir, debating, public speaking and sports, there are also environmental and social injustice groups to help each student receive a well-rounded education. The school works hard to instil a love of learning into every child and to give them the courage to take risks and experiment, without fear of failure.
