The Learn and Play session facilitator will primarily be responsible for delivering learning and play sessions as part of the Plus Pre-Nursery Programme across Alpha Plus Group Schools and Nurseries. The Facilitator will have responsibility for delivering play and learning based groups for children 0-3 and their families following the Plus Curriculum. This includes the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the programme.They will also support in the generation of activity plans and other material at the direction of their manager.

Main purpose of the role:

  • To run the ‘learn and play’ sessions both in person and / or virtually for the Pre-Nursery Programme at Alpha Plus Group schools and nurseries across London and Kent.
  • To coordinate the sessions in each school ensuring that resources are ordered and the setting prepared and subsequently restored.
  • To ensure the sessions reflect the values of the school in which they are being taught.
  • To promote parent engagement with the Plus Programme.
  • To contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of information, advice and support to parents of young children aged 0-3 on how they can support their children’s learning
  • To support parents in capturing the progress of the children using a progression of skills document, a termly report and an online learning journey.

Person Specification - Essential Criteria

Experience and qualifications

  • Relevant level 3 qualification in Early Years
  • Extensive experience of working with young children, particularly 0-3 year olds
  • Experience of leading a programme
  • Experience of working with families, identifying support and working in partnership with them to promote learning
  • Experience of working in partnership with other professionals and organisations when identifying and meeting the needs of children and families and in response to safeguarding concern

Knowledge and Understanding

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the EYFS
  • Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries and safeguarding children.
  • A  good understanding of the developmental needs of young children, 0 to 3 year olds
  • A good understanding of what constitutes a quality early education environment
  • An up to date knowledge and understanding of safeguarding requirements and procedures
  • A good understanding of effective assessments of children’s learning and development and devising appropriate next steps for their learning
  • A commitment to inclusive and non-discriminatory working practice with children, families, colleagues and the community.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills; with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively in person, by phone, email, and in writing with families
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to understand the values and dynamics of the school or nursery.
  • Flexibility, including willingness to adjust working hours to meet the needs of the programme
  • Enthusiastic, a team player and self-motivated with good organisational and time management skills
  • Good observational skills and the experience to support parents in how best to intervene to support children’s learning, development and interactions.
  • Active listening skills
  • Good ICT skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, video conferencing, online Learning Journeys, Excel and PowerPoint.
