Job overview

Achieving Excellence where Every Child Matters

Do you share our vision for every child in our school?

We are recruiting outstanding Early Years and lower school learning assistants. Our assistants are a valued and integral part of the primary school and as such we are looking for proactive, positive, flexible and professional team players. You will need to be able to work equally well with adults and children alike, be adaptable to change and have a problem-solving mindset.

Assistants support children in their learning in a 1:1, small group or class setting. It is vital that you can form positive and supportive relationships with the children and have high expectations of behaviour and outcomes at all times. As an inclusive school, we value all learners, so you will be working with children who require further challenge and those who require additional support. The successful candidate will be an outstanding, learning focused practitioner, preferably with experience of working with children aged between 2 and 7 years old. Experience of working with children who are working in a second or third language is a distinct advantage.  More experienced candidates may be asked to teach classes as appropriate, and as needed. All applicants must have a native level of English language proficiency.  There are no formal qualifications required for the position, but if you are looking for an opportunity to work and develop your experience with young children in an amazing part of the world, then this could be the opportunity for you. Our assistants are sometimes, but not necessariy part way through a learning journey to becoming teachers themselves.

St George Madrid is located in a prime educational zone to the North of the capital. The school is an all-through school and is based on a single site with children aged from 20 months to 18 years. We are part of a small group of schools with a sister school in Barcelona. We follow an adapted English National Curriculum across our primary and secondary schools, leading to examination at IGCSE and IB Diploma.

As an international school we expect all our staff to commit to the wider life of the school, through our after-school programme, as well as school events and activities going on throughout the year.

If you are committed to child centred education, with a deep-rooted desire to help every child reach their potential and are interested in helping shape the future development of an international school we would be delighted to hear from you. You can find out more about our schools by visiting our website https://stgeorgeinternational.es/madrid/

Initial interviews will be held virtually on a rolling basis with a face-to-face meeting where possible for the shortlisted candidates at the school. Interested candidates are invited to apply by clicking below. Candidates who already have Spanish residency or an EU passport are particularly encouraged to apply. In some cases, positions may be available with a summer term start date.

The closing date for applications is 20th May 2022 and we reserve the right to make an appointment for the right candidates before the closing date. Please upload a current CV with your application. Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students in our care and expects all applicants to share this commitment. We follow safe recruitment practice and appointments are subject to an interview, satisfactory references, a good track record of health and attendance, as well as criminal record checks.
