The Role:

The college is looking for proactive, confident and enthusiastic individuals, to complement the Student Services team in offering the right support for young people with additional needs, ensuring they are successful in their chosen course. You will support groups and/or individual students who have been assessed and identified as requiring additional learning and support.

You will need to be a good communicator with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of people at all levels. The post-holder will need to be well organised and possess good time management skills and problem solving skills, whilst having the ability to work on your own initiative.

You will be committed and motivated by the shared values of the College and will have recent and successful experience of working with learners aged from a diverse age range and recent and successful experience of working with people with a range of disabilities and learning needs.

In addition, as part of the role you may also be required to assist students, with their personal care needs and mobility between lessons.

Key Responsibilities:

•To be able to provide support in any session from Monday morning to Friday afternoon to ensure student timetables can be accommodated

•To be vigilant in all aspects of learners’ health and safety in compliance with college regulations and specific regulations related to the programme area to ensure the safety of the students

•To support learners in or out of class, on work placements and during lunch and break times as required to ensure the safety of the students

•To check equipment used by learners and report any requirements to teaching staff to ensure efficient, safe and effective use of resources

•To liaise with staff regarding needs or problems of individual learners, and assist in the preparation of teaching materials to ensure effective learning for an individual

•To record support and progress made on the College’s student database

•To undertake all aspects of the post in accordance with the College’s Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding and Health and Safety policies and schemes to ensure we meet our own and external standards

Annual leave  

Academic staff are entitled to 40 days per annum (pro rata for part time staff) for the academic year 01 September to 31 August and this is in addition to the Bank and Public Holidays normally observed in England and Wales. 

Business Support staff are entitled to 30 days per annum (pro rata for part time staff) for the academic year 01 September to 31 August and this is in addition to the Bank and Public Holidays normally observed in England and Wales. 

College Management Team are entitled to 35 days per annum (pro rata for part time staff) for the academic year 01 September to 31 August and this is in addition to the Bank and Public Holidays normally observed in England and Wales.  

The College is closed for 2 weeks during the student Christmas break during which time all staff are granted additional leave to be taken at this time.

The College offers membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme or the Local Government Pension Scheme depending upon your role.  Continuing Professional Development  All new staff are provided with a full Induction programme. There are also opportunities for internal training opportunities throughout the academic year

The Lifestyle Fitness Gym, situated in our modern sports facility, offers affordable gym membership (normally £19 per month) and fitness classes for students, staff and members of the public that include yoga and Pilates. 

The College’s Pure Hair, Beauty and Complementary Therapies Salon provides a wide treatments at competitive prices.

Transport Links  

The College provides on its campus free secure parking to our staff and bike racks. We are located on local bus routes and are conveniently 20 minutes’ walk from Macclesfield train station.
