Oscott Manor School is looking to appoint a positive and ambitious teacher to join us as a learning leader.

Our school is a community special school for pupils aged between 11 and 19 with autism as their primary diagnosis. In January 2022 we relocate to a brand new purpose build school in Erdington, a suburb of North Birmingham with excellent transport links to the City and beyond and where we have great working partnerships with local schools.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced teacher with some experience of school leadership at any level who will take responsibility for leading a number of curriculum areas and at least one area of whole school responsibility such as parental engagement. You would join a cohesive leadership team who share high expectations and ambitions for all our pupils and who support and challenge one another to facilitate school improvement and personal/professional development.

These posts are suitable for qualified teachers who are not in the early stages of their career and who are seeking to develop as school leaders.

Full details can be found on the attached job description. Applicants considering applying for the post should read this carefully before deciding whether to apply.

  • learning Leader post 1 will be responsible for leading the curriculum across the school for English, communication and reading in addition to areas of whole school responsibility to be agreed on successful appointment
  • learning Leader post 2 will be responsible for leading the curriculum across the school for arts, humanities, ICT and the creative curriculum in addition to areas of whole school responsibility to be agreed on successful appointment

All our pupils have an education, health and care plan and may have persistent difficulties with social interaction, social communication or understanding emotions. Such differences can significantly impact on their access to the curriculum.

Class teachers at Oscott Manor typically teach a full range of curriculum subjects to one class of approximately twelve pupils in a Key Stage class with the support of two teaching assistants. Some classes have access to subject specialist teaching.

At Oscott Manor School, the experience of the child or young person is paramount and we expect all actions and decisions to reflect this. We are proud to be a Unicef Rights Respecting School on a journey to gold.

You can see recent updates on school life via our twitter feed: @oscottmanorsch or school website.

Preliminary visits to the school are possible by appointment at 4pm on Thursday 9th January or 8am on Friday 10th January 2022.

Closing Date: 28 January 2022, 8am

Interview date: Monday 7th February 2022
