Job overview
Vision for Education in Manchester are currently recruiting for a learning mentor to work in a Secondary alternative provision within Bolton with young mums. The pupils may be too anxious to access mainstream education or have low self-esteem. They may be in year 11 and struggling to cope with the academic rigour of year 11 work in mainstream school.
This role will require you to work with pupils to build positive, professional relationships and help children overcome barriers to learning. Experience delivering core subjects such as English, Maths and Functional skills is required along with experience facilitating 1:1 or small group interventions.
The right candidate will be personable and empathetic yet be able to motivate young people that have missed periods in their learning. The provision offers a bespoke package for students requiring a smaller academic setting which is supportive and nurturing, but which will also challenge and push them to achieve their potential. The exam results are often very good.
Students are taught in small classes and are supported by a Learning Mentor and the subject teacher in each lesson. One to one sessions are also offered to students requiring extra targeted support in a particular skill or subject. Small mastery sessions are also offered weekly to help students catch up on missed work or to revisit topics they may not have mastered during the week.
The provision is an excellent environment to work within with a multi award winning team and very supportive.
Whilst working with Vision for Education our staff have full accessibility to our CPD courses, such as Team teach, Mental Health awareness, Child protection and Safeguarding, Autism awareness, plus many more.
The role will commence in September 2017 and pay rates begin at £60 per day (dependent upon experience) with the view to become a permanent member of staff.
