Job overview

We wish to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic person to join our Inclusion Team. You will play a key role in our Learning Mentor programme of intensive support for targeted students. Mentors are responsible for delivering 1:1 and small group interventions with students to significantly improve their behaviour (both social and learning), progress and attendance.

You will also be responsible for supervising students excluded from, or not working to, a normal timetable. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • experience of working with young people who display challenging behaviour and the ability to motivate and encourage students;
  • experience of resolving conflict and facilitating mediation between young people;
  • well-developed interpersonal skills to be able to relate well to a wide range of people including students, staff, parents/carers and external professionals;
  • an understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues affecting children and young people;
  • the ability to work constructively independently and as part of a team;
  • knowledge of current child protection and safeguarding practice;
  • be self-motivated, enthusiastic, creative and adaptable;
  • good ICT skills including using email and database systems

Hours: 35 hours a week, 39 weeks a year (term time only plus 5 INSET days)
