Wheelwright Lane Primary School is situated in Ash Green, a small area of Exhall on the Coventry and Warwickshire border.
The school is a well-established and integral part of the community it serves and the community itself provides the basis for parts of our curriculum. Children from local Warwickshire and Coventry areas attend the school. It is a very popular small school with a warm, friendly atmosphere.

The role
We are looking to appoint a part time experienced Learning Mentor with teaching assistant responsibilities to join our friendly team at Wheelwright Lane Primary School in January 2023 for 18 months until 31 August 2024. The post will be fixed term with a view to a permanent contract. The position will be split into two roles – a) Teaching Assistant Level 2 (F grade) for 1 day per week to provide classroom support on Tuesday and b) Learning Mentor (G grade) for 3 days per week to raise standards in attainment, support our parent partnership and improve attendance.
Key requirements:
A relevant qualification in working with children at NVQ level 4 or equivalent
OR Qualification to NVQ 3 and considerable experience in working with young people in a relevant environment e.g. youth work, health service or social work.
Minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths at grade A - C
Have undertaken training in behaviour management & child protection
Have undertaken Early Help Training
Mentoring qualification (desirable).
Experience of working with young people in a relevant professional environment (education, youth, health, social work)
Experience of working with children with SEND
Experience of providing individual support to young people and ability to negotiate targets
Experience of working with outside agencies
Evidence of understanding young people’s emotional and educational needs
Evidence of knowledge and understanding of youth culture
Experience of working in an education setting
Knowledge of behaviour management strategies
Able to and experience of taking responsibility, working on own initiative and making decisions
Display commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people
Value and respect the views and needs of children
