Job overview

About the role:  Longfield Academy are expanding their current mentoring team; we are seeking to appoint Learning Mentors who are confident in English and/or Maths who will support our Key Stage 4 pupils on the road to completing their GCSEs in 2018.  Working with small groups of pupils and also holding 1:1 intervention meetings with students who require the support, our successful candidate(s) will work with the Teachers and Heads of Department to boost the students' predicted grades and build their confidence.  As there is much focus on Maths and English, our successful candidate(s) will have achieved A*-B grade in as many of these subject areas as possible and, as a desirable criteria, be educated to A Level for one of the subjects which will enable you to prepare the students for what follows GCSEs if they were to select these as an option.

These are new positions for our academy and we can offer a start date as soon as the successful candidates are available. For a detailed account of the duties and responsibilities that this role brings, please consult the Job Description by clicking here.  This is a great role for those who are interested in pursuing a career in teaching as we offer School Direct Initial Teacher Training in both Maths and English.

The working basis of the role is approx. 21 hours per week over three days during Term Time plus 1 week inset.  The salary offered is £7,375 (pro-rated from a full time equivalent salary of C7 £15,204 per annum).  We require our suitable candidates to offer a degree of flexibility with regards to working hours – ideally we would like to offer our students additional support sessions after school until roughly 4.30pm so a later start would be offered in the morning.  Exact hours can be discussed during the interview.  For those seeking a full time working pattern, other opportunities across the academy and wider Trust can be considered to provide maximum exposure and impact.  Please note that there is an expectation that the successful candidates make every effort to upskill themselves with a knowledge and understanding of the new reformed 9-1 GCSEs in English Language and Literature (the successful applicants' Line Managers can provide recommended reading for this).
