Job overview

A Learning Support Assistant is needed to work in our busy, vibrant primary school working from 8:45am till 1:15pm, totalling 22.5 hours per week.

The Governing Body of Sythwood Primary School and Children's Centre is inviting applications for the role of Learning Support Assistant.

Our vision is to ensure that every child will be safe, healthy, happy, creative and will have the personal confidence, skills and opportunity to contribute and achieve more than they thought possible.

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to work as part of our whole school team to support all children to make progress at our school.

The role will include, but is not limited to, supporting teachers both in and out of the classroom environment and undertaking playtime and lunchtime duties.

As an LSA in our school, you may also be asked to deliver appropriate interventions to small groups and individuals, and undertake observations relevant to the learning outcomes of any activity, assessment and record-keeping. Part of your role will also be to ensure the physical welfare of the pupils and assist pupils with their physical needs as appropriate and agreed.

Applicants must have GCSE C+ or equivalent in Maths and English.

Sythwood Primary School is a popular and successful school situated in Goldsworth Park, Woking. We are part of the Bourne Education Trust and have recently grown to a 3 form entry school.

Our school has excellent resources, which include a specialist centre for visually impaired children, a Breakfast club and an After-School club. We also have a Children's Centre with a reach of over 3000 families. Sythwood has many links to international schools, through the International Primary Curriculum.

This role would suit someone who:

- is excited about learning

- is innovative and creative

- is committed to working in a team

- can develop strong, supportive relationships with children and the community

- will make a strong contribution to the whole school team

Our new Learning Support Assistant will join a successful school with a strong and supportive set of colleagues. Our recent, 'Good' Ofsted report said "Staff are overwhelmingly positive about the school and feel proud to work there. They report that leaders are supportive and help them to achieve their best!".

We would love to show you around our school, so please email Katie Fontaine on the application email provided to arrange a visit.

Interviews will take places as and when suitable candidates apply.

About Sythwood Primary School

Sythwood Primary School and Children's Centre is a large and diverse school with over 600 children aged 2-11 on our roll and over 120 members of staff.

At Sythwood Primary School we want our children to grow up and learn in a happy, orderly and safe environment where there are high expectations of both staff and children. Our Vision Statement is Great Learning, Great Challenge, Great Fun!

We believe that education is most effective when home and school work closely together so we arrange many occasions when parents and school staff can collaborate to help enhance the children's learning.

We work hard to make Sythwood an exciting and attractive school because children enjoy learning in a stimulating environment. Many visitors comment on our welcoming and colourful school. Each school year we have a variety of themed weeks which include "History Week" and "Science Week". These are in addition to regular days where we invite visiting performers, artists and experts into school to share their skills and knowledge with the children. Use of the International Primary Curriculum is an integral part of school life and all children from Nursery to Year 6 take part in extra activities connected to their class topics. Our recently refurbished all-weather floodlit games area is a great asset used by both our children and the local community.

Our Aims

To achieve our mission, every day we will strive to:

  • Be exceptional role models and have consistently high expectations
  • Use every second purposefully so the children master the basics, experience challenge and make accelerated progress
  • Develop the whole child through a broad curriculum and enriching experiences, which are accessible for all
  • Treat everyone with respect and compassion
  • Listen to the views of and work in collaboration with our community
  • Have meaningful relationships with the children and be adaptable to their needs
  • Celebrate diversity of our children and our community
