Job overview

Our NAS Cullum Centre received its first intake of 4 high functioning students with autism in September 2016, and we are continuing to expand over the coming years.

The NAS Cullum Centre is located within Hinchley Wood School. We are an inclusive and high achieving school and celebrate student progress and development as well as academic achievement.  We are located on the borders of SW London and have 1,300 students on roll including 225 in our 6th form.

We are looking for a learning support assistant to join us at this exciting phase and help shape the vision and support we offer. The ideal candidate, according to one of our new students’ wish list, is ‘someone who is patient, extremely tolerant, with a good sense of humour but knows when to be serious too’.

Ideally you will have a recognised Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualification to Level 3 or above with experience or an interest in working with students who have complex learning needs. A willingness to develop knowledge and skills through comprehensive training opportunities is essential.

Other qualities required include being able to work collaboratively as part of a team and build good relationships with colleagues and students, both within the Cullum Centre and the wider school community. In addition, flexibility, providing appropriate support for identified students, and communicating effectively and sensitively to colleagues about identified students.

The hours of work will be Monday – Friday from 8am – 4pm. The ratio of students to staff will be 2:1. If you have a strong desire to help young people with autism to reach their full potential in a mainstream setting we would very much welcome your interest.

We offer:

  • a competitive salary and performance progression;
  • professional development support;
  • two weeks’ autumn half term;
  • interest free travel loan;
  • childcare and cycle to work salary sacrifice schemes; and
  • membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
