Are you passionate about supporting students in English literacy and language development? St Christopher School is seeking a Learning Support Assistant (English Specialist) to work closely with teachers and students, helping to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is enthusiastic about English education, student support, and making a meaningful impact on academic progress and confidence.
About the Role
As our English Specialist LSA, you will:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students in English lessons.
- Work collaboratively with English teachers, assisting with lesson planning, resource preparation, and classroom activities.
- Deliver specialist interventions to support students with literacy development, comprehension skills, and writing techniques.
- Support students with special educational needs (SEN), helping them access the English curriculum effectively.
- Monitor student progress, providing verbal and written feedback to teachers and pupils.
- Encourage students to become independent learners, boosting their confidence and engagement with English language and literature.
- Promote inclusion and engagement, ensuring all students can participate fully in learning activities.
- Assist in developing learning resources tailored to the needs of individual pupils.
- Work closely with parents and carers, providing updates on student progress and strategies for learning support.
- Support the school’s literacy initiatives, fostering a love for reading and effective communication.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Holds GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above) in English and Maths (or equivalent).
- Has experience working with young people, ideally in an educational or literacy support role.
- Understands teaching strategies for developing literacy, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
- Has strong communication skills, with the ability to motivate and engage students in learning.
- Is passionate about English education and understands the National Curriculum requirements for KS3 and GCSE English.
- Has experience working with SEN students, particularly those with dyslexia or literacy challenges.
- Is highly organised, patient, and adaptable, with a student-centred approach.
- Is willing to undertake further training to develop expertise in literacy intervention strategies.
