Job overview

At Lambeth Academy, we live by our school motto to ‘be exceptional’. To achieve this, we need the best staff to bring out the best in every single student. For many of our children, this means equipping them with the knowledge, ambition and skill to attend university and go on to have a meaningful career.

We have a relentless focus on high standards, whether this is on the learning in classrooms, our students’ interactions around the Academy, or in raising their aspirations. We don’t overcomplicate things: teachers teach, and students learn. Anything that takes away from this core focus has to come second. We believe exceptional learning is about determining the simple things that work, doing them well, and doing them all the time. If you’d like to join us on this mission, please come and visit us – we’d be delighted to welcome you.

The Role
The role of Learning Support Assistant for pupils with SEND is an important one within the Academy. The main duties are to support pupils with SEND (particularly ASD) and teachers inside and outside of class so that our pupils can reach the highest possible levels of progress in their academic study. The LSA will support pupils in 1-to-1 sessions, in small class or in small withdrawal groups.

You will be directly accountable to and fully supported by the SENCO or an HLSA. LSAs should also support the creation of a culture of constant improvement and be committed to the highest achievement of all in every aspect of the Academy’s work.

About You
You will be passionate about working with young people within a school environment to help them to fulfil their academic ambitions. You will have the ability to encourage pupils to learn using pre-set material, to apply behaviour management policies and strategies and have high personal and professional standards.

You will use specialist skills/training/experience to support the child with SEND. This support will be offered in 1-to-1 sessions, in class or in small withdrawal groups.

You will need to have a good general education to CSE/O/GCSE level or equivalent, including English and Maths.

The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently as well as part of a team. You will need to be able to work under pressure, have excellent communication skills, and be computer literate.

United Learning
Lambeth Academy is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.
