Job overview

Beech Hall School is looking for an experienced and dynamic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their friendly and supportive team, to support students in the Upper Seniors (Yrs 9 - 11). The core purpose of this role is to support specific pupils within the classroom environment, small group situations and on a one-to-one basis as required. LSAs will work with teaching staff to raise the learning and attainment of pupils whilst also promoting their independence, self-esteem and social inclusion. Experience of working with children with SEN is highly advantageous.

This is a challenging and varied role and an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated person with good interpersonal skills with ideally previous experience of delivering support for the teaching and learning across the board.

We are looking for someone who is flexible, able to use their own initiative and can work well in a team situation. The candidate will follow the direction of the teacher whilst also understanding the child they are working with and how to differentiate the task appropriately to suit their needs.

Duties will include running specific programmes and activities to assist the pupil’s individual learning and social needs. The candidates will also be responsible for implementing the targets on the pupils’ School Focus Plan (SFP) in liaison with the class teacher and SENDCo.

Beech Hall School prides itself on the inclusion of all staff members in the involvement of the life of the school and expects flexibility to undertake additional roles as and when required. It is expected that all staff will attend staff briefings before and after school (on set days), complete break and lunchtime duties, training, inset days, extra-curricular activities and meetings as appropriate.

In addition to working in the beautiful surroundings of Beech Hall School and with committed and friendly colleagues, staff will also benefit from:

  • Competitive rates of pay
  • Access to the staff pension scheme
  • Free lunches on-site
  • Generous staff discount on nursery and school fees
  • Wellness programmes, including access to the on-site gym and pool
  • On-site parking

Positions within our Learning Support team are valued and highly regarded, and for that reason we offer competitive rates of pay. As such, even though the role is term time only, the salary is for the full year and not pro rata, which is much more favourable than other schools may offer. Please note, this is also a permanent position.

More information about our school can be found on the school website, www.beechhallschool.org. You are warmly encouraged to get in touch with any questions you may have, or better still, why not come and see us for yourself? Should you wish to have an informal discussion about this role or make an appointment to visit us, please call Mrs Fern, Director of Inclusion, on 01625 422192.

A full job description including person specification is available to download via the TES and school website. Please apply using either the quick apply option or contact the school for an application form. Please remember to include a statement outlining your suitability for the role. Completed applications should be returned by email to Mrs Goodwin, School Secretary secretary@beechhallschool.org by 5pm on Friday 16th June.

Beech Hall School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All employees are required to undertake child protection screening appropriate to the post, including enhanced DBS checks.

History of Beech Hall

Beech Hall was built for a prosperous mill owner in the 19th Century, but became a school in 1926.  The school buildings are sited at the top of a hill overlooking the Bollin Valley, a beautiful stretch of Cheshire countryside. The school has extensive playing fields set in the valley below, and these are reached by a long walk down steps cut into the hill (the return walk after games seems like an even longer walk!) For the teaching of games and PE we also have a heated sports hall on site and a heated swimming pool that is used in the summer months. During the winter, we swim at a local indoor pool however the outdoor pool is still used for our winter training camps!

In 2002 Beech Hall School purchased its land and buildings. Since then, there has been investment in new and existing facilities.  A new playground has been installed and next to it an astro turf pitch.  The Nursery has been relocated in what was the Headmaster’s house, whilst the senior school is accommodated in attractive classrooms in the old stable block and on Ivy Bank. Junior classes have been moved from school outbuildings into beautifully restored rooms in the main building. There have been significant improvements in ICT, Library and Drama facilities.

The School - Composition.

Beech Hall is a very friendly place.  The staff are dedicated and hardworking; the children are amiable and receptive; and the parents supportive and enthusiastic.

Beech Hall School accepts both boys and girls. The pupil  roll is currently two-thirds boys, one-third girls. The children that attend Beech Hall School range from 6 months to 16 years old. The youngest children are housed in the nursery building. This is staffed by a team of trained Nursery Nurses.   A pre-school is also sited in the nursery building.  From 4 to 7, the children are in a part of the infant school and from 7 to 11 the children join the junior school. Pupils from age 11 upwards are in the senior school. The average class size at the school is currently 12 children.

The Curriculum

The children are taught a broad and balanced curriculum: Maths, English, Science, IT, Art and DT, History, Geography, French, German, PE, Games, RE, Swimming and Music. Children have the option of taking private music lessons, and some have private tutoring on site out of school hours in maths and English. A number of children also receive learning support for various special needs.

After school activities range from numerous sports to music, art and drama. The school has a fine sporting record and enjoys significant success at football, rugby, hockey, athletics and netball.

Local Area

Macclesfield is set in the prosperous area of South East Cheshire. To the east lies the beautiful hills of Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park. Immediately to the west lie the exclusive towns of Alderly Edge and Wilmslow, home to celebrities from sport and show business. To the north is Manchester (about 15 minutes by train, 30 minutes by road) filled with culture, restaurants, various sporting arena, and a thriving nightlife. Manchester has recently become one of the most fashionable and vibrant cities in England.

Manchester airport is no more than 30 minutes from the school and London about three hours by road, 90 minutes by train.

There are local shops and amenities within walking distance. Large supermarkets are also close by in the town centre.
