Job overview

Full time, Permanent

Required for September 2020

FTE: £20,103 - £20,835 per annum

At Kingsley Academy, we are a school seeking a passionate and caring Learning Support Assistant to join our thriving SEND Team. Serving a rich, diverse and ambitious community, we are located in the heart of Hounslow in West London, just next to Hounslow East tube station with excellent transport links to Central London.

Since opening as an academy in April 2013, our school has struggled to realise its potential, with two successive judgements of Requires Improvement by Ofsted. However with the arrival of our new Headteacher in February 2019, our school has really changed for the better. With a highly visible Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team and a centralised behaviour policy, characterised by high standards and no excuses Kingsley has been transformed into a calm and orderly environment for learning. Ofsted visited our school in October 2019, and agreed, judging Kingsley to be ‘Good’ in all areas.

An absolute strength of our school are our students. Visitors to our school without exception comment on our students’ terrific attitudes and thirst for learning. They are overwhelmingly polite, respectful, considerate and eager to learn. Low level disruption is rare and our students are committed to their learning. What they need are great staff, who can unlock their potential.

Our aim is to establish Kingsley as a ‘A school at the heart of our community, developing knowledge, ambition and kindness to prepare students for success at university and the world beyond’. We are passionate about achieving social justice for our students and believe firmly that it should not be about where you come from that determines how successful you are in life.

This role will involve intervention work with our students who need SEN support, in-class support as well as being a focal point of contact for a bubbly, friendly and hard working student in Year 8.

Our ‘Kingsley DNA’ runs through the fabric of our school. These are our guiding set of principles which determine our actions and behaviours at all levels, from students to staff to senior leaders.

  • Walk the talk – We role model the high standards that we expect of others
  • High expectations – We do not lower our expectations of anybody and strive to be remarkable
  • No excuses – We believe firmly that all can achieve, no matter their starting point and that success is achieved through hard work
  • Outstanding learning – We believe in the transformative power of education and know that excellent teaching and learning is our core purpose, put simply ‘the main business is the main business’

We are now seeking to appoint a passionate LSA who is:

  • Someone with clear boundaries and embodies high expectations
  • Passionate about working with students with SEN
  • Believes in the value and benefit of inclusive education
  • Hard working and solution focused
  • A team player and has a sense of humour
  • Believes passionately in the transformative power of education to change students lives

In exchange, we can offer you:

  • A happy and harmonious school community, where staff are valued and respected
  • A two week October half term break
  • A centralised behaviour system - no detentions, no negative phone calls home!
  • A sensible approach to meetings - if they don’t need to happen, we don’t have them..
  • A dedicated staff wellbeing co-ordinator and working party
  • A strong professional learning offer, with pathways to qualifications
  • A teaching Headteacher and Senior Team who walk the talk and are approachable, visible and proactive
  • An epic Christmas Party and Summer Barbeque!

This is a great opportunity to gain valuable classroom based experience, to prepare you to develop a career within SEN education or to allow you to move into a teaching career in the future. If this sounds like a good fit, then we encourage you to apply for this important role.

We passionately believe that every child can discover their own remarkable life. It’s what motivates us around here. We know this vision requires something extra. Which is why at AET, you’ll find more. More opportunities, so you can forge your own path. More care and support, so you can prioritise what matters most. More purpose, for you and for the children we’re inspiring.

We offer:
