Job overview

London East AP (LEAP) is a successful, high-achieving KS3, KS4 and Post-16 alternative provision located in Tower Hamlets.

We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant/Key Worker to support our pupils at our KS4/KS5 centre in Stepney Green.

This post involves being the go-to person for pupils on a day to day basis as well as supporting students pastorally and academically both in and out of school.

A good GCSE pass in English and Maths is essential in allowing our students to access apprenticeships and employment opportunities.  The purpose of the role is to support pupils with their behaviour and learning needs, enabling them to take as full a part in the school curriculum as possible and ensuring that they make appropriate progress.

Our Learning Support Assistants and Key workers specifically work with our pupils in a multitude of ways:

1. Supporting day to day attendance and punctuality to school, liaising with parents and carers, removing barriers to school attendance.

2. Advocating and supporting our pupils in and out of lessons with behaviour, wellbeing and learning. Working to improving the progress, academically and socially, of our pupils.

3. Liaising with colleagues and external agencies to engage in multi-agency work in order to ensure the effective safeguarding and child protection of some of the most challenging and hard to reach children in Tower Hamlets.

In order to be able to work with our students successfully, candidates must have strong literacy and numeracy skills and the academic ability to support students within the school curriculum which consists of GCSES, BTECs and Functional Skills.

This is a full-time post, term time only, and offered at SCALE 6.

Those wishing to be considered for the role should complete an application form and return to Kathryn Ryan, School Business Manager, by 12pm Friday, 17th December 2021. Please be aware that we are unable to accept CVs.

We would welcome and encourage potential candidates to visit our schools. Please telephone or email to arrange this or for an application pack.
