Learning Support Assistant

We have a new opportunity for a Female* Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our Lifestyle and Works Team.

Mencap’s Lifestyle and Works division run education-based programmes for supporting people with a learning disability to move closer to the job market and gain employment. These programmes are called ‘3 Ships’ and they include Supported Internships, Traineeships and Apprenticeships.

This role is a full-time (37.5 hrs per week) permanent role and will be a based in Kingston. 

The successful LSA will support our learners on our Supported Internship programme and the role may be carried out in a classroom-based environment and out in the community. You will need to be a confident communicator across all levels, as you will be liaising with learners, carers, parents and external stakeholders.

Essential key skills and experience for this role (but not limited to):

• Experience of supporting people who have special educational needs & disabilities including autism
• Ability to inspire learners and implement effective engagement and support strategies
• Well organised & self-motivated
• Ability to take direction from the Tutor to best support learners
• Ability to manage different situations sensitively & in a timely manner
• Experience of using Excel/word/IT systems
• Have certificates/Qualifications for English and Maths at level 2 or above
