Harrogate College is recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work with learners with additional needs. This role is reduced year 39 weeks and part time 22.2 hours per week over a minimum of three days. 


 What We Do

The SEND department is a friendly, busy team at Harrogate College. We support students with special educational needs and disabilities, some of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans. We provide in class support, help to get exam access arrangements, mentoring, supervision and quiet spaces. We're looking for someone with experience of working with learners with additional needs who can be flexible and adaptable and quickly establish a rapport with a wide range of young people.


What You Will Do

  • Provide in and out of class support to meet identified needs of students with Education, Health and Care Plans.
  • Provide teachers/assessor and SEND team members with verbal and written reports on student progress towards outcomes.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation plans and practices.
  • Supervise vulnerable learners during unstructured times and when accessing transport.
  • Assist with personal care and medical requirements as necessary.
  • Support students who are less mobile or may be wheelchair users.
  • Comply with and keep up to date with college policies and legislative and regulatory requirements.


Hours

  • Reduced Year, 39 weeks.
  • 22.2 Hours per week over a minimum of 3 days.
  • Start time 8.30am, finish time 4.30pm

 

Your Profile

  • You should be a strong advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion, and in particular how they pertain to young people with special needs and disabilities.
  • We would expect you to be qualified to at least L2 in Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE grade 4 or C), preferably with a qualification in Learning Support.
  • You should experience of working within a team who support students with high needs and have knowledge of how to prepare them for adulthood.
