SOUTHFIELD SCHOOL, THE SOUTHFIELD GRANGE TRUST

Southfield School is a part of The Southfield Grange Trust, a multi-academy trust established in 2013. The school is co-located with Grange Technology College, a mainstream secondary academy at the Southfield Grange Campus. Southfield School caters for around 220 including 80 in our Sixth Form and 8 at our Project SEARCH site at the Bradford Royal Infirmary. The main school houses Key Stages 3 and 4 in the Southfield Grange building. This post is based in our outstanding Sixth Form provision, the Pathfinder Vocational Centre (PVC), which is located on the other side of Haycliffe Lane and offers specialist education and training aimed at providing pathways for life after school for our sixth form students.

We have on-site support from other professionals including Speech and Language Therapists, the School Nursing team, Physiotherapy teams as well as support from Social Care and other services.  Our school also enjoys close links with education, leisure, sporting and commercial organisations across the locality and we are keen to actively promote these partnerships for the benefit of the children in our care.

Full time, 31hours per week

Term time only + 1 week

We are seeking to recruit a Learning Support Assistant to cover maternity leave of absence.  Commencing immediately this role is to support students within the post-16 provision of the school.  The successful applicant will undertake work, care and support programmes to enable access to learning for students; including British Sign Language (BSL) users and will assist the teacher in the management of students and the classroom.  This is a rewarding and varied role which may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.  

Good interpersonal skills are essential for the role as well as an ability to confidently communicate using British Sign Language, accordingly you should have a BSL level 2 qualification as a minimum.  Applicants for this role should have experience working with children or young people in a school or college environment as a teaching assistant or learning support assistant and ideally have experience working with young people with special educational needs.  

The successful applicant will join an accomplished team of professionals within an outstanding post 16 provision.  

Key Requirements/Responsibilities   

  • You will have previous experience in a similar position  
  • English and Maths at Level 2/GCSE A-C minimum  
  • British Sign Language (BSL) qualification of Level 2 or above 
  • Communicating lesson content using British Sign Language  
  • Supporting learners out of class (assignment work etc) and during extracurricular activities  
  • The role will involve you delivering 1:1 support to learners requiring British Sign Language
