Tes is supporting the appointment of a Learning Support Assistant at a Special education school based in North Tyneside.

The School is an Independent Special School, approved for pupils with Special Education Needs by the Department for Education. The school aims to provide a high-quality education package to pupils who have difficulties in relating to education or others within a mainstream setting.

The school is registered to accommodate 35 pupils from 10 – 18 years; the school specialises in teaching pupils with Emotional, Social and Behavioural needs, and with other associated learning and cognitive difficulties.

The aim of the school is to provide enough support to unlock each child’s potential so they can live fulfilling and productive lives. They provide young people with as much freedom as possible in a safe and supervised environment. This is achievable due to the dedication and support from a range of employed professionals who are passionate, reliable, and understanding.

Following an expension the school are seeking to employ a hardworking and resilient individual to work as a Learning Support Assistant supporting children with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and moderate learning difficulties (MLD). The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated team and provide high quality assistance for the pupils in order to maximise each and every child’s potential. Applicants will be accepted with relevant experience in a similar role ideally supporting children with autism, the school accept applicants with relevant backgrounds such as mainstream education, working in the care sector and nursing care.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will connect directly with the brilliant children and young people the school care for, helping to make sure they get the very best from their education.

The successful candidate will help prepare learning materials and run classroom activities, with plenty of hands-on experience and some supervision too. They will take responsibility for their emotional and physical needs, supporting them to develop as individuals and engage with the world.

Supporting children with complex Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs is important and rewarding work, and the successful candidate will benefit from the tremendous support offered by the schools hugely experienced teams.

You don’t need any experience to join our team. If you come from hospitality, the army, outdoor activity centres or an office-based job but are eager to help vulnerable children and young people to live happy, fulfilling lives, this is the role for you. The school will provide you with full training and development to succeed within your role. 

You will be adaptable and ready to work in a variety of classroom roles, both indoors and outside according to individual need. Taking a responsive and caring approach, you may be running classroom activities, leading outdoor experiences or supervising children as they explore further afield.
