Required for immediate start

Alec Hunter Academy is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant, specialising in numeracy, to join a well-led, friendly, high-performing and supportive team. With an interest in literacy as well as numeracy support, the successful applicant will have the ability to help students to reach their full potential by working with them individually, in small groups or in the classroom as part of the Student Development Centre’s Numeracy Team. This position would particularly suit someone who is considering a future career in teaching, offering experience of working with young people in an educational setting.

Applicants must have excellent numeracy and literacy skills, including Maths and English at GCSE grade C or above.  Previous experience is not mandatory, since support and training will be provided, but the ability to engender positive relationships with young people is essential.

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community. Our recent Ofsted inspection, in July 2017, graded the school as ‘good’ for the first time in its history, with the report noting that “School leaders have established a culture where expectations of pupils and teachers are high and improvement is rapid”. The school works in close partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, within the Saffron Academy Trust. Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks, including two teaching school alliances.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.

Closing date for applications: Monday 19th February 2018 at 12 noon
